Purpose And Scope

Performs specialized work by assisting summer school teachers in instructing and supervising students to ensure a well-organized, smoothly functioning classroom environment during the summer term. Responsibilities include preparing instructional materials, setting up classrooms, supervising children, reinforcing lessons, and assisting with special needs students or special projects. The position works under direct supervision according to set procedures.

Essential Job Functions

• Assist teachers in maintaining an organized classroom environment during summer classes.
• Support students with exercises and activities, focusing on small groups or individuals as needed.
• Prepare and organize materials and classroom settings for instruction.
• Help clean and store materials after activities.
• Reinforce classroom lessons and skills taught by teachers.
• Maintain student records, manage attendance, grade assignments, administer tests, and assist with behavioral and academic support.
• Supervise students during bus loading/unloading, hallways, field trips, testing, lunch, computer labs, and on school grounds.
• Support students with special needs, including assistance with daily routines and adaptive equipment.
• Assist in establishing behavioral objectives, model social skills, observe and report behavioral changes, and support behavioral adjustments.
• Participate in special programs or projects as assigned.
• Respond to inquiries from parents, assist in communication, and attend staff meetings and training.
• Perform routine clerical tasks such as preparing reports, managing records, and handling correspondence.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's Degree or two years of college (minimum 48 semester hours), or a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment Test, and one year of experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred. Must possess or be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification. Current employment as an Educational Assistant in SCS is preferred. Candidates must commit to the entire summer program, attend all administrative meetings, and be available for setup and closeout activities.
