Job summary

Northeast Metro 916 Intermediate School District seeks a dedicated instructional support professional to assist students and ensure a healthy educational environment. About The Career & Tech Center

916 Career and Tech offers 20 programs that give high school students the competitive advantage of professional skills, industry certifications and college credit (in many programs) that give students a head start toward post‑secondary success while earning high school elective credit. Students enrolled in 916 Career and Tech courses come from 13 school districts north and east of the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and the coursework is part of a students’ normal school day. Students attend for 105 minutes and spend the remainder of their day at their home high school taking their required core classes.

Position Information

This position is a 7 hour/day position scheduled to work 183 days per year, with option for additional summer hours. Starting hourly pay is $20.50. This position is fully benefit eligible.

Nature of Work

Incumbents are responsible for providing instructional and behavioral support to students individually or in small groups, and ensuring a safe and healthy education environment. Responsibilities may include: assisting teachers with modifying curriculum, class activities or materials; providing instructional support in various disciplines and facilitating social skills; monitoring students' behavior to ensure a safe and healthy environment; deescalating student issues; providing physical care; and maintaining and preparing routine records and reports.

Typical Class Responsibilities
  • Assists teachers by providing instructional support to students where differentiated/modified instruction is needed; secures the necessary equipment needed within the class to accommodate specialized student needs.
  • Assists teachers with overseeing the safety, personal conduct, personal care, and behavior of the students; redirects students engaging in negative or unexpected behavior; documents behaviors; implements behavior support plans and monitors for effectiveness; intervenes when necessary to deescalate students deemed to be in crises.
  • Assists with the instruction of student workers by providing guidance in the handling of industry specific tools and machinery, maintaining work areas, and preventing accidents.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Functional Specific Responsibilities
  • Coach and Mentor Students: Support high school learners in developing essential workplace readiness, technical skills, and career pathways specifically tailored to the construction and manufacturing industries.
  • Collaborate with Educators: Work directly with classroom teachers and students to foster employability skills and facilitate meaningful, hands‑on experiential learning.
  • Facilitate Career Transitions: Guide and support students as they successfully transition from high school into postsecondary education, registered apprenticeships, technical training programs, or direct employment.
  • Model Industry Standards: Reinforce workplace expectations, safety mindsets, and professional behaviors aligned with the skilled trades and modern workforce development.
Training And Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
  • Two years of study at an institution of higher education (60 college credits) OR an Associate degree (or higher) OR successful completion of the Paraeducator training and assessments (District funded)
  • 1 to 3 years successful experience working with adolescents and/or individuals with special needs. Other successful work experience can be considered.
  • Experience in construction or manufacturing skilled trades preferred, or a strong willingness to learn and adapt to these industries.
