Job description

The Education and Outreach Assistant provides essential administrative and on-site event support to
the Education Department at The Dallas Opera. The Education Department provides accessible opera
education and performances to the Dallas community throughout the Metroplex. Offerings include our
Kids Opera Boot Camp, Opera in a Suitcase, Opera Truck, student matinees, and more!

This position is part-time annual, non-exempt (up to 20 hours per week) and reports to the Education
Program Manager and works closely with the Education Department.

A strong candidate will also be a flexible problem solver who can “go with the flow.” Reliable
transportation is required given that work takes place throughout the Dallas Metroplex (mileage
reimbursement is provided). Remote work is generally permitted when on-site attendance is not
required.

A background in classical performing arts is not required! Must be able to pass a comprehensive
background check.

Responsibilities:

Specific duties include administration of Education department functions, including but not limited to:

Attendance
– Attend EDU rehearsals and performances as needed, including but not limited to family
performances at the Winspear Opera House, including pre-show activities; community
performances (e.g. OperaTruck); Kids Opera Boot Camp; and other TDO events, as needed.
– Attending all EDU and Company staff meetings

Administration
– Assist Education Program Manager with data entry duties including, but not limited to managing
EDU spreadsheet, tracking EDU program signup requests, tracking payments for EDU programs,
and inputting payments into Tessitura (client database)
– Communicate with community stakeholders by managing EDU inbox including email
communication with community and school organizations, including collecting details and sending
reminders for all events, performances, and teacher trainings.

Teaching Artist
– Serve as a Substitute Teaching Artist should primary TA be unable to attend workshops
– Provide instruction during Kids Opera Boot Camp

Other
– Complete other duties, as assigned.
