G. P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young Readers has an exciting opportunity for an Editorial Assistant to join their team. Reporting into a Senior Executive Editor and a Senior Editor, the Editorial Assistant will provide administrative and editorial support on a list of children’s books spanning age categories, including picture books, graphic novels, and middle grade and YA novels.

G. P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young Readers publishes books for children of all ages (0─18), from award-winning, literary picture books to commercial young adult novels. We are looking for a detail-oriented self-starter who loves books; possesses strong writing, analytical, and communication skills; can manage a diverse set of responsibilities efficiently and effectively; is comfortable asking for help when needed; and wants to be an active participant on a collaborative team. A passion for children’s books is a must.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Provide general administrative and clerical support to supervisors
• Draft jacket/cover copy, title information sheets, cover memos, and other materials
• Support acquisitions with evaluation of proposals and manuscripts, logging submissions, and drafting rejection letters
• Liaise between authors, agents, and the different departments within the publishing group
• Create P&Ls, generate Contract Information Sheets, and request payments
• Keep up to date regarding promotion, publicity, and review status of books
• Be an active participant at our weekly editorial meeting, reading materials in advance and weighing in on acquisition discussions
• Assist in production process from finished manuscript to bound book
• Handle special projects as needed

• Strong reading and analytic ability
• Strong organizational and follow-up skills and ability to handle multiple responsibilities
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, multi-task, and prioritize in a deadline-driven environment
• Exceptional attention to detail
• A team player mentality and the ability to build internal and external relationships with departments, authors, agents, and other stakeholders
• Motivated, eager to learn, and resourceful, with the ability to solve problems creatively and proactively
• Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word

The salary for this position is $51,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.

This hybrid position has occasional in-office responsibilities, including but not limited to in-office meetings, author visits or events, and daily ad hoc administrative projects. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).
