The New York Times is seeking an editor to lead our weekend off-platform audience growth across social and search. You will guide a small team of editors, program our social accounts, and shape journalism for weekend audiences, balancing tactical execution with strategic vision.
You will translate data and audience signals into SEO and social practices, work with newsroom reporters, and uphold journalistic independence while expanding our reach on weekends.
The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It's why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It's why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it's why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it's worth paying for.
The New York Times is looking for an editor to help lead our teams across our flagship social accounts and search, with a focus on weekend programming. A successful candidate for this role will bring expertise in all things audience growth off-platform, including search and social platforms as well as emerging ones, a strong sense of news judgment and audience signals, as well as a keen eye for off-platform photos, graphics and videos.
The editor will help establish a vision for shaping and targeting our journalism for different platforms to ensure that the full breadth of Times journalism finds audiences on weekends. This role bridges tactical execution and high-level strategy. Leading the work of a small team of off-platform editors during the weekends, you will work story by story - including helping to program our social accounts - and think more broadly about the mix of our off-platform social report, and how it should or should not differ from the weekday to the weekends. You will also have a hands-on role in ensuring our journalism appears across high-demand topics for users who seek news, but haven't yet made The Times their destination for news.
This person will work Wednesday through Sunday.
This is an in-office position, based in New York City and includes regular attendance in the office four days each week. There may be some flexibility to work remotely per your departmental guidance.
