Job summary

American City Business Journals, Inc. seeks an Editor-in-Chief to drive content strategy and quality across print, digital and events in a fast-evolving local business news operation.

The EIC will shape the vision, mentor reporters, and lead editorial decisions with a digital-first mindset. This leadership role requires collaboration with the Publisher to grow audiences, expand partnerships, and sustain a hyper-local mission.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of management and/or team leadership experience.
• Daily, and preferably, weekly print experience for a business news operation.
• Experience working in an online news environment.
• Inspiring, yet diplomatic.
• Innovative, curious, collaborative.
• Eager to connect directly with readers/audience.
• Must be comfortable and thrive in rapidly changing and uncharted media environment.

Responsibilities

• Create content and product vision for our portfolio of products across print and digital.
• Drive staff adaptation to new mediums, platforms, skills, and story forms.
• Lead reporting staff with hands-on editing and guidance on coverage decisions.
• Grow print, digital and event audiences through engagement initiatives.
• Maintain vitality of print through thoughtful packaging and exclusive interviews.
• Partner with department heads to create business and marketing plans.
• Pursue content syndication channels and partnerships for content.
• Serve as primary newsroom conduit between local market and corporate.
• Meet or exceed audience metrics such as page views, unique users, and newsletter growth.
• Participate in Business Journal events and other assignments.
• Collaborate professionally with sources and colleagues.
