Job description

Sony Pictures Animation is looking to hire an editor for an upcoming feature project. The editor will take on a key creative role in editing and fine tuning the feature including conveying the story, emotional beats, and overall pacing to reflect and enhance the director’s vision.

Sony Pictures Animation is a pre-production animation studio based in Los Angeles, California, creating both feature animation and animated series with artists from around the world. We pride ourselves on empowering filmmakers to lead the creative process, and allowing the hand of the artist to be truly felt, with the goal of producing bold and innovative visual storytelling.

Responsibilities:
  • Make decisions regarding story, acting, dialogue, music and sound effects that determine the quality and delivery of the animated project.
  • Work with directors, producers, and executives and ensure quality product from early production (animatic) through delivery of final animated version.
  • Serve as leader of the editorial staff and oversee the successful operation of the team.
  • Oversee correct presentation of editorial-related materials including screenings for filmmakers, executives, and preview audiences.
  • Serve as a key member of the production team, interacting with creative staff and animation/VFX professionals.
  • Attend and participate in notes sessions with creative and management groups. Oversee incorporation of changes resulting from production screening.
  • May mix sound materials in Avid or participate in temp mix sessions to ensure sound quality. Supervise final mixes.
  • Responsible for feeding the production and post production operations. Partner with production staff to meet deadlines, and work with post production management for issues both creative and technical.
Qualifications:
  • A proven leader in setting direction for a project and for inspiring and motivating others. 5+ years experience in a leading animation editing role.
  • High degree of proficiency in Avid Media Composer.
  • Combination of creative and organization skills with great attention to quality product. Familiarity with feature animation pipeline and workflows.
  • Understanding of Animation pre-production, production and post production processes. Strong team player with good inter-personal and communication skills.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $4,000/week to $6,000/week. This role qualifies for benefits pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors.
