Job summary

Hearst Television's Orlando NBC affiliate seeks a Part-Time News Editor to craft compelling stories with strong visuals and wordsmithing. You will edit stories and newscasts under tight deadlines, collaborate with producers, reporters and editors, and ensure media is properly stored and organized.

The ideal candidate brings experience with nonlinear editing and a passion for accurate, engaging storytelling in a fast-paced news environment. In-person attendance is required.

Qualifications

  • Experience editing for news, online and broadcast platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple editing tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Strong visual storytelling and writing for television.
  • Familiarity with nonlinear editing software and media management.

Responsibilities

  • Edit stories, videos and newscasts for broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Maintain and organize news archives.
  • Operate electronic newsgathering equipment.
  • Perform nonlinear editing for PKGs, VOs, VOSOTs and opens.
  • Collaborate with producers, reporters and editors to produce high-quality stories.
  • Ensure proper storage and organization of media files.
  • Maintain editing standards across all edited material.
  • Ingest ENG and SNG feeds.
  • Handle additional editing duties as assigned by news managers.

Job description

WESH 2/CW18, the Hearst-owned NBC affiliate in the Orlando market, has an opening for a highly motivated and creative Part-Time News Editor to work in a very competitive news market. This position will cover news stories as assigned. Our ideal candidate has an excellent eye for visual compelling storytelling and is passionate about combining strong writing and storytelling with great pictures and sound.

Responsibilities
  • Edit stories, videos, and newscasts on tight deadlines for newscasts and digital platforms.
  • Maintain news archives
  • Operate electronic newsgathering equipment
  • Nonlinear editing using Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, Avid, and Edius for newscast elements including PKGs, VOs, VOSOTs, opens, teases and preproduction material
  • Collaborate with producers, reporters and managers to produce high quality stories
  • Ensure proper storage and organization of media files
  • Maintain standards for all edited material
  • Taking in ENG and SNG feeds
  • Any other editing responsibilities as assigned by news managers
Requirements
  • Ability to work and edit on linear and nonlinear editing software
  • Proficiency editing with Adobe Premiere
  • Can handle and juggle multiple editing assignments under strict deadlines
  • Knowledge of current video production techniques
  • Familiarity with mass communications law and media responsibilities
  • Record multiple feeds on a digital encoding system
  • Search for source materials from multiple outlets and platforms
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment with calm, skilled execution
  • Related military experience will be considered
  • In-person attendance is required
