Job summary

WebMD LLC, a Medscape Network division, seeks an Editor for Custom Content to lead digital medical editorial projects for healthcare professionals worldwide. You will edit, revise, and align content with clinical accuracy while collaborating with medical experts and AI-enabled workflows.

The ideal candidate has strong writing, medical editing expertise, and experience with AI in editorial contexts, plus the ability to work with cross-functional teams to meet editorial standards and deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, communication, English, science, medicine, or equivalent years experience.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience writing/editing in digital medical publishing or a similar field.
• Practical experience using generative AI tools in a professional context.
• Ability to craft prompts and critically evaluate AI outputs against clinical guidelines.
• Agile mindset with adaptability to new digital tools and workflows.
• Ability to analyze complex data including clinical trials and guidelines.

Editor, Custom Content

The Custom Content Editor reviews, edits, and revises digital content aligned with the information needs of an audience of healthcare professionals around the globe. The Editor ensures content meets editorial content and product criteria, working with medical expert contributors and editorial team members as needed to supplement and revise submissions.

The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in current medical science, have strong communication skills, and have demonstrated analytical problem‑solving skills. Strong editing and writing skills are essential.

The ideal candidate thrives in an evolving editorial landscape, combining traditional medical editing rigor with fluent AI implementation to accelerate content creation without compromising clinical accuracy or ethical publishing standards. The editor will effectively use and understand a variety of AI engines while safeguarding the quality, accuracy, and physician‑audience appropriateness of every published piece.

The Editor will collaborate across multiple departments including Program Managers, Copy and Production Editors, various Media Editors, Marketing, and editorial leadership to ensure content planning alignment.

The Editor ensures that the content published is true to our brands’ missions and values and builds on our leadership position in health and medical information worldwide. This position ensures timely, engaging, and relevant coverage for healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate the clarity, accuracy, and clinical relevance/appropriateness of content and references, editing and revising as needed to meet editorial standards
• Integrate approved generative AI engines and agentic AI tools across the editorial lifecycle to optimize production workflows according to organizational policies.
• Rigorously audit and fact‑check AI‑generated drafts, summaries, and citations against primary sources to ensure accuracy
• Continuously evaluate new AI capabilities, sharing prompt strategies with team members to advance the department’s editorial technology standard
• Collaborate with physician contributors to ensure clinical accuracy and practical relevance
• Collaborate with team members throughout the quiz development process, and provide timely and constructive editorial feedback in order to help strengthen clinical accuracy, clarity, structure, audience relevance, sourcing, and adherence to editorial standards
• Partner with peers and team leaders to identify and troubleshoot any quality concerns, workflow challenges, or other opportunities for improvement within the team.
• Manage the product development cycle, ensuring timely delivery at each editorial stage
• Collaborate with editorial leadership in delivering the assigned content calendar
• Research and obtain appropriate images, working with adjacent teams to finalize selections
• Learn and adhere to department best practices to ensure consistency and increase efficiency

Skills, Requirements, and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, English, science, medicine, or equivalent years experience
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience writing/editing in digital medical publishing or a similar field
• Practical experience using generative AI tools (e.g., LLMs for research structuring, drafting, or editing) in a professional media or medical context.
• Demonstrated ability to craft effective prompts and critically evaluate, fact‑check, and refine AI outputs against strict clinical guidelines
• Agile mindset with a track record of adapting quickly to new digital tools, workflow automation, and evolving editorial technologies
• Ability to analyze complex data including but not limited to clinical trials, treatment guidelines, and scientific research, with an understanding of global, regional, or country unique audience needs
• Strong interpersonal communication skills and writing that demonstrates correct grammar, punctuation, and syntax
• Proficiency in Google and Microsoft suites to include Word, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Excel
• Ability to effectively collaborate and work independent while appropriately prioritizing work streams with high volumes and firm deadlines

Salary range: $65,000 - $70,000
