Job description

Wiley, a leading law firm in Washington, DC, is seeking a eDiscovery Project Manager to support our Practice Support department. The eDiscovery Project Manager will act as an internal consultant providing hands-on support to practice groups requiring eDiscovery support and will participate in the development, implementation, and support of efficient, cost-effective solutions across the eDiscovery lifecycle.

This role will provide guidance on best practices and industry standards associated with the discovery process, complex forensic collections, forensic analysis, and trial support services. The eDiscovery Project Manager will also identify training needs and work with Practice Support management to create and deliver appropriate content.

This position is eligible to participate in the firm's flexible work program.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Consults with attorneys, legal teams, and clients to identify best practices and establish processes for the identification, preservation, collection, analysis, processing, review, and presentation of discovery materials (EDRM lifecycle) and apply these best practices and processes to effectively serve firm clients
  • Works with Director of Legal & Practice Support and Senior Manager of Practice Support to identify opportunities to increase efficiency and design solutions including, but not limited to creation of job aids, testing/assessment of software solutions, developing and maintaining intranet content, and designing trainings
  • Possesses and keeps current in-depth knowledge of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM), including key considerations, associated technology solutions, and workflows for each phase
  • Consults with attorneys and staff to identify opportunities and solve complex problems using firm software and/or innovative solutions
  • Analyzes written and oral customer requirements and translate into a project plan and process/workflow design to increase efficiencies and productivities to be realized by the legal team
  • Creates, updates, and maintains databases/projects in practice support applications, including but not limited to: RelativityOne, Opus 2, Agility Blue, and other eDiscovery hosted solutions as required
  • Ensures creation and maintenance of case documentation (e.g., media logs, production logs, search/batching criteria, etc.)
  • Provides general software and case-specific training on end-user-facing Practice Support tools (e.g., RelativityOne, Opus 2) and be a resource for ongoing coaching and training
  • Uses Relativity’s suite of Analytics tools, including structured and text analytics, Active Learning, and Review Center. Creates searches of varying complexities for specific requests, prepares and validates productions
  • Develops and maintains procedures and documentation to ensure proper case management and knowledge management practices
  • Provides trial support services including, but not limited to establishing relationships with trial graphics, presentation, and equipment vendors; visits war room and trial sites to prepare site setup recommendations and establish temporary support centers for pretrial and trial activities
  • Coordinates projects with team members, internal customers, external clients, and vendors, assigning tasks and deadlines both internally and externally
  • Maintains relationships with external vendors of practice support services, including management of projects and deadlines and communication of requirements and deadlines
  • Works on internal projects (e.g., software rollouts, training plan redesigns, workflow and process standardization) in coordination with management
  • Meet the department's expectations to retrieve, read and/or respond to firm and client-related e-mail messages during and outside of core business and scheduled work hours by connecting a personal mobile device (smartphone or tablet with a data plan) to the firm's network
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) and at least 5+ years of relevant professional experience required; Relativity Certified Administrator (RCA) certification preferred
  • Extensive experience with large and complex litigation and investigation matters; experience responding to government inquiries/subpoenas a plus
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Understanding and ability to apply knowledge of all phases of the EDRM
  • Expert knowledge of practice support software, preferably RelativityOne, Opus 2, Agility Blue, and other eDiscovery hosted solutions
  • Significant experience with complex ESI collection, processing and database management
  • Highly proficient in the use of office productivity applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, text editing tools and, most importantly, Excel), aptitude for learning new software required
  • Consistent demonstration of good judgment, critical thinking, and tenacious problem-solving
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple responsibilities while meeting deadline demands
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with all levels of law firm, client, and vendors, both orally and in writing
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in work product
  • History of excellent customer service skills and ability to generate internal business for team services
  • Team player and leader with ability to resolve conflicts in professional and team-oriented manner
  • Must maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials
  • Ability to travel to support clients as requested
  • Flexibility and willingness to respond to issues during and outside of core business hours
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Position operates in a professional office environment which is usually quiet to moderate
  • Position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets
  • Position requires that the employee be able to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • This position is primarily a sedentary position. However, some duties and responsibilities may require the employee to lift files, open filing cabinets, bend or stand, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, occasionally move about to access office equipment, file cabinets, etc.
  • May require employee to carry or lift items weighing up to10 pounds

The base salary for this position is expected to be between $140,000 to $165,000 annually. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other job-related factors, consistent with applicable law.
