Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking an Edifecs Application Engineer to administer and optimize the Edifecs platform in a remote U.S. setting for the Veterans Affairs department.

The role requires strong EDIFECS architecture knowledge, AWS cloud experience, and hands-on platform administration across XEServer, XEngine, TPM, and SpecBuilder. The candidate should have 8+ years in EDI/healthcare or enterprise operations, exceptional communication, and the ability to drive architectural decisions

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in EDI, healthcare, or enterprise app operations.
• Strong EDIFECS and AWS experience with architecture decisions.
• Hands-on Edifecs platform administration and troubleshooting.
• Experience with job throughput optimization, JVM tuning and memory management.
• Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) and JIRA.
• Security, governance, and audit knowledge; W-2 US-based remote role.

Responsibilities

• Administer, configure, troubleshoot, and enhance the Edifecs platform for reliable EDI processing.
• Configure and maintain XEServer, XEngine, TPM, and SpecBuilder modules.
• Build, deploy, and optimize Edifecs processing rules and batch workflows.
• Analyze mapping issues, validation failures, and performance bottlenecks.
• Manage JVM tuning, logs, and certificate/keystore configurations.
• Support releases, environment refreshes, patches, and upgrades.
• Collaborate with EDI Analysts, DevSecOps, Cloud, and business teams.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Administer, configure, troubleshoot, and enhance the Edifecs platform, ensuring reliable and compliant Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) transaction processing
• Configure and maintain XEServer, XEngine, TPM, SpecBuilder, and related modules
• Build, deploy, and optimize Edifecs processing rules, routing logic, and batch workflows
• Analyze and resolve mapping issues, validation failures, functional errors, and performance bottlenecks
• Manage system logging, Java Virtual Machine (JVM) tuning, and certificate/keystore configurations
• Support release deployments, environment refreshes, patching, and upgrades
• Collaborate with EDI Analysts, DevSecOps Engineers, Cloud teams, and business teams

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong knowledge of EDIFECS architecture and transaction lifecycles
• Strong experience in Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud environments
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• A hands-on understanding of the platform architecture and operational behaviors across the following:
• Edifecs XEServer (orchestrations, batch flows, execution contexts)
• XEngine (validation, rulesets, canonical structures)
• TPM (trading partner configuration, routes, agreements)
• EDI Gateway (visibility, audit, search, and reprocessing)
• SpecBuilder (Implementation Guide (IG) definitions, map development)
• Experience with EDI Integration and Interface Management of all technical aspects of inbound/outbound connectivity, consistent with the following:
• Applicability Statement 2 (AS2), Secure File Transfer Portal (SFTP), File Transfer Protocol Secure (FTPS), Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) channels
• Application Programming Interface (API)-based integrations and gateway services
• Experience with EDI troubleshooting providing root-cause analysis of transaction failures, mapping/misalignment defects, partner-specific rejection patterns, batch job flow failures, and throughput/performance degradation
• Experience with job throughput optimization, engine performance tuning, JVM tuning and memory management, high availability and failover orchestration, and monitoring dashboards for proactive detection
• An understanding of AWS Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instance sizing, Operating System (OS) tuning, storage Input/Output (I/O) patterns, file transfer endpoints, routing, firewall coordination, network path debugging, and Secure Sockets Layer/Transport Layer Security (SSL/TLS) certificate lifecycle management
• Proficiency with Git and GitHub, including branching strategies, pull requests, and collaborative workflows
• Compliance, audit, and partner governance knowledge
• Infrastructure as code experience (Ansible and Terraform)
• A strong ability to communicate technical architecture decisions and trade-ops to non-technical stakeholders
• Experience gathering and translating business reporting requirements into technical data models
• Comfort driving ambiguous architecture decisions to resolution with limited direction
• Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum and Kanban) and JIRA
• Strong documentation habits, including architecture diagrams, data dictionaries, and migration runbooks
• An ability to work collaboratively with development, operations, and security teams to ensure seamless production system operations

Desired experience

Deep hands-on EDIFECS experience in Electronic Data Interchange X.12 (EDI) Transactions Standards involving key X12 workflows involving the following transactions:

• X.12 medical claims (837, 834, 835, 277, etc)
• 270/271 and 278 transactions
• 999 transactions

Knowledge of HIPAA compliance requirements in cloud data architecture

Experience with healthcare payer/PBM systems, clearinghouses, or pharmacy operations

AWS certification in a bonus

Formal Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent practical experience considered

Citizenship Requirement
