Job summary

Real-Time Innovations (RTI) seeks a Research Engineer to tackle AI coding for distributed systems, focusing on determinism, timing control and software-defined architectures. You will work with a highly distributed team and interact with sponsors, customers, and partners on cutting-edge real-time connectivity platforms such as Connext.

The role blends research with practical product transition, including customer trials and collaboration with product management and engineering.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or related field. Appropriate research expertise includes electromechanical, intelligent or autonomous systems, distributed systems, physical agentic AI, or computer networking.
• An experimental thesis or real-world experience with physical applications or distributed systems research.
• Excellent written communications skills, and evidence of research publications. Experience writing and winning proposals, and research project management.
• Solid programming skills and experience with AI-assisted software development.
• Ability to work successfully / actively engage with a highly distributed team.
• US Person requirement due to laws, regulations and contract specifications.

Responsibilities

• Innovate new solutions that form the foundation of secure, adaptable, and fast distributed systems.
• Define research areas of interest with the business-development team and draft research proposals.
• Compose research proposals and report progress to sponsors.
• Lead research contracts to advance RTI technology.
• Serve as PI or staff on externally-funded research contracts.
• Interface with sponsors, customers, research partners, and prospects.
• Develop expertise and share insights across RTI.
• Communicate technical innovations through papers and presentations.
• Support transition of innovations to product including customer trials with engineering teams.
