Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Princeton, New Jersey seeks an Entry Level Modeling Physicist to work on edge plasma physics for magnetic fusion energy devices. You will apply numerical simulations to study edge plasmas and plasma-surface interactions, developing new models and simulations in collaboration with national and international fusion projects.

Qualifications

• PhD in plasma physics or a related technical discipline or equivalent.
• Advanced experience and knowledge in magnetic confinement fusion edge plasma physics and plasma-surface interaction physics.
• Advanced experience with numerical simulations and modeling methods.
• Advanced experience with magnetic confinement fusion plasma codes.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaboration and dissemination of results.
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research in edge plasma simulations and analyze results to provide physics understanding.
• Compare simulation results across 2D edge plasma codes to evaluate model behavior and accuracy.
• Collaborate to guide and compare simulation data with experiments.
• Develop and implement new edge plasma physics and plasma-surface interaction models.
• Publish results in peer-reviewed journals and present at external conferences.
• Pursue independent research interests while coordinating with internal and external scientists.
• Adhere to ES&H, security, and business practices.
