Job description

At Kform, you’ll be the bridge between the physical and digital worlds. As the Edge IoT Systems Architect for Full-Stack Platforms, you’ll shape how connected hardware, networks, compute, applications, data, and AI come together across our product lines and engineering environments.A day in the lifeYou start by refining a system diagram for a new connected product—mapping how sensors talk to gateways, how edge computers route to servers, and how apps consume data across cloud, on‑prem, and disconnected sites. By mid‑morning, you’re configuring a managed Ethernet switch, separating traffic with VLANs, standing up DHCP/DNS, and tightening firewall rules. After lunch, you push updates to a Python service that orchestrates device provisioning, review a Rust PR for a reliability‑critical component, and ship a TypeScript UI improvement for operational dashboards. You wrap the day validating telemetry, updating deployment docs, and mentoring a teammate through a tricky integration test. What you’ll ownEnd‑to‑end architecture for connected products, edge compute, IoT rollouts, prototypes, manufacturing lines, and test setups.Configuration and administration of switches, routers, wireless, edge devices, servers, gateways, and related infrastructure.Network blueprints: VLAN design, routing and addressing, DHCP/DNS, PoE, firewall policy, segmentation, and device connectivity.System‑wide communication patterns connecting sensors, controllers, embedded devices, gateways, edge computers, servers, and applications.Standards for provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management of networked and deployed systems.Full‑stack software across Python, Rust, JavaScript/TypeScript, and other appropriate stacks.Back‑end services, APIs, data processing pipelines, automation layers, device interfaces, and distributed services.Front‑end tooling and UIs for configuration, monitoring, operations, and data visualization.Interfaces spanning hardware, networks, edge platforms, databases, on‑prem or cloud infrastructure, and user‑facing applications.High‑performance, systems‑level, and reliability‑critical services written in Rust where it fits best.Python solutions for applications, automation, AI workflows, data engineering, integrations, and engineering tools.AI‑enabled applications: model integration, AI agents, retrieval systems, structured extraction, reasoning workflows, and automated engineering processes.Data pipelines linking devices and systems to databases, apps, analytics platforms, and AI services.Architectures that function seamlessly across cloud, on‑premises, edge, and intermittently connected environments.Containerized deployments and the developer environments that support them.Automation for provisioning, deployment, configuration management, monitoring, and testing.Hands‑on leadership troubleshooting across networking, hardware, OS, containers, APIs, databases, applications, and AI services.Integration and validation testing to confirm end‑to‑end behavior of mixed hardware/software systems.Operational observability—logging, monitoring, diagnostics, and telemetry for system health and root‑cause analysis.Technical reviews of designs and configurations; guidance and feedback for peers.Authoritative documentation: network and system diagrams, interface definitions, configuration standards, deployment runbooks, and software docs.Cross‑disciplinary collaboration with mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, product, cybersecurity, software, and test teams.Mentorship for junior engineers; help establish best practices across software, networking, IoT, AI, and systems integration.Minimum qualificationsBS in Computer Science, Computer/Software/Electrical Engineering, IT, or a related technical field; or equivalent hands‑on expertise.Professional experience designing, configuring, and troubleshooting networked systems.Direct experience working with managed Ethernet switches and broader network infrastructure.Deep grasp of TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, DHCP, DNS, firewalling concepts, and segmentation.Production software development experience in Python. Background building back‑end applications, APIs, services, and data‑centric solutions.Fluency with Linux environments.Proficiency with Git and modern software delivery practices.Experience integrating physical devices with software and digital infrastructure.Proven ability to debug complex systems spanning hardware and software.Ownership from architecture through implementation, integration, testing, deployment, and documentation.Preferred qualificationsStrong Rust proficiency.History of delivering production full‑stack applications.JavaScript/TypeScript experience with modern front‑end frameworks.Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or comparable container/orchestration platforms. Background with edge‑compute designs and intermittently connected/disconnected systems.Knowledge of IoT protocols and interfaces: MQTT, serial, WebSockets, REST, USB, Ethernet, and related.Experience with databases and data platforms, including graph and vector stores and distributed data systems.Experience integrating LLMs and other AI/ML into production software.Hands‑on work with RAG, embeddings, AI agents, model routing, inference infrastructure, or AI workflow orchestration.Infrastructure automation, configuration management, and automated provisioning experience.Designing secure systems for defense, manufacturing, industrial, robotics, or other hardware‑intensive settings.Familiarity with cybersecurity principles for networked, edge, IoT, and deployed environments.Core strengthsSystems thinking across devices, networks, compute, software, data, and AI.Translating product and operational needs into clear physical and logical architectures.Self‑sufficiency configuring and troubleshooting network infrastructure without relying solely on centralized IT.Strong architectural and coding skills across front end, back end, systems, and integrations.Judgment on when to use Python, Rust, or other technologies.Robust interfaces between hardware and software.Methodical troubleshooting across multiple layers of the stack.Ability to research unfamiliar tools, protocols, and platforms and deliver working solutions.Clear, reproducible documentation and configuration standards.Mentorship and technical leadership on multidisciplinary efforts.Where and how you’ll workYou’ll operate in a dynamic product and engineering setting that blends software development with network infrastructure, physical devices, prototyping, integration, and hands‑on testing.Expect a mix of desk‑based development and in‑the‑lab installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and validation in labs, manufacturing spaces, customer sites, and field locations.Standing, walking, connecting equipment, installing hardware, and using tools may be part of the job.Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required during manufacturing, installation, and test activities. What we valueAlignment with Kform’s values—innovation, continuous improvement, and teamwork.Comfort working across IT, software engineering, AI, networking, and hardware boundaries.Curiosity and willingness to adopt emerging networking, IoT, software, AI, and edge technologies when they provide real advantages.Full technical ownership and the drive to close issues across disciplines.Flexibility to occasionally adjust hours to meet deadlines and support integration, deployment, and testing.Your work will provide true end‑to‑end ownership—from physical infrastructure through AI services—enabling Kform to build increasingly sophisticated connected products and digital systems.
