Job summary

St. Joseph Hospital, part of Catholic Health, located in Bethpage, NY, seeks an Emergency Department technician to support patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

You will help with data collection and provide essential care, while preparing the patient environment for admission, transfer, or discharge. Requirements include a High School diploma or GED, CNA certification or EMT-B certification or a nursing student with clinical experience, BLS, and basic computer literacy.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CNA Certification through a duly authorized CNA Training program, OR EMT-B certification OR Nursing student with Fundamentals of Nursing and clinical rotation completed.
• Current Emergency Department (ED) experience preferred.
• BLS from American Heart Association required.
• Must be computer literate and able to read/write basic English.

• The Emergency Department technician assists in the care of patients by performing various duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
• Provides appropriate care to assigned patients.
• Performs treatments and procedures according to hospital policy and procedures.
• Prepares patient environment for receiving patients.
• Assists in admission, transfer and discharge process when necessary.
• Assists nurse or physician in procedures and treatments as needed.
• Places patients on a cardiac monitor as instructed by nursing staff.
• Handles and cares for patients' clothing, valuables and personal property from admission through discharge.
• Functions appropriately during emergencies and crisis situations.

Located in Bethpage, St. Joseph Hospital that provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient medical, critical care and surgical services. Its Emergency Department cares for approximately 33,000 patients a year. Other vital services include an Ambulatory Surgery Unit, The Center for Sleep Medicine, Hyperbaric and Wound Healing Center, CHS Cancer Center, The Center for Speech and Swallowing Disorders, Diabetes Education Center and a full scope of outpatient radiology services, including Cardiac CT.

• Performs treatments and procedures according to established hospital policy and procedures.
• Prepares patient environment for receiving patients.
• Assists in and, as necessary, accompanies patient in the admission, transfer and discharge process.
• Assists the nurse or physician in procedures and treatments as necessary.
• Appropriately places patients on a cardiac monitor as instructed by nursing staff.
• Handles and cares for patients clothing, valuables and other personal property (including prosthetic devices, hearing aides, dentures, glasses, contact lenses, etc.) from admission through discharge.
• Functions appropriately during emergencies and crisis situations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED Required.
• Successful completion of a duly authorized CNA Training program with CNA certification, OR EMT-B certification OR a Nursing Student enrolled in a Nursing program who has completed Fundamentals of Nursing including a clinical rotation.
• Current ED experience is preferred.
• BLS from American Heart Association is required.
• Must be computer literate. Must be able to read and write basic English.

Salary Range

USD $22.14 - USD $23.72 /Hr.
