Company Description

Located in Largo in the heart of Prince George’s County, UM Capital Region Medical Center is a new state-of-the-art regional medical center dedicated to providing improved access to primary and ambulatory care services. Serving as a tertiary care center for critically ill patients, our facility also expands community partnerships aimed at enhancing the health status of Prince George’s County residents.

Position Summary

Under the direction of a licensed nurse and/or physician, the ED Technician II assists in patient care by performing triage, registration, basic laboratory tests, EKGs, and related routine, non-professional nursing care. This role requires a High School diploma or equivalent and current CNA certification.

Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
  • Provide safe, effective, timely, and efficient care to assigned patients under licensed nurse supervision.
  • Perform basic patient care functions including comfort measures, linen distribution, assisting with nourishment, and managing bedpans or urinals.
  • Conduct patient care procedures such as obtaining weights, vital signs, glucose monitoring, suctioning of tracheostomy/ET tubes, intake and output monitoring, dressing changes, specimen collection, and splint application as directed.
  • Observe, interpret, and promptly report changes in patient conditions or behaviors. Respond quickly to patient call lights.
  • Accurately respond to cardiac monitor alarms by identifying cardiac rhythms and communicating findings; procure rhythm strips per guidelines.
  • Assist with patient transfers and transport using proper safety and body mechanics.
  • Ensure patient safety by monitoring arm bands, side rails, restraints, call light positioning, and toileting needs. Secure patient valuables as necessary.
Documentation
  • Accurately document patient activities of daily living (ADLs), vital signs, weights, dressing changes, suctioning, and other care activities.
  • Maintain unit records including admission, transfer, discharge logs, and interventions.
  • Support clerical duties such as placing orders, retrieving information, and transcribing physician orders.
Supplies and Equipment
  • Assess and procure necessary supplies; stock patient care areas and emergency equipment.
  • Set up and operate oxygen, cardiac monitors, EKG machines, and other patient care equipment.
  • Perform quality control on glucometers and ensure emergency equipment is functional; report malfunctions promptly.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of hallways, supply carts, IV pumps, and patient rooms following infection control procedures.
Customer Service
  • Greet patients and visitors courteously and professionally, maintaining eye contact and using respectful communication.
  • Follow communication protocols, introduce self with job title, and engage customers with open-ended questions.
  • Respond promptly to questions, concerns, or complaints, striving for immediate resolution.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information in all settings.
  • Provide assistance proactively and facilitate smooth hand-offs to other staff when necessary.
  • Demonstrate commitment to service recovery when expectations are not met.

  • Take responsibility for problem-solving and meeting deadlines.

  • Maintain appropriate voicemail and out-of-office messages.
  • Return emails and voicemails within one business day.
  • Be mindful of voice and language in public areas.

  • Adhere to hospital dress code and wear identification badge visibly at all times.
  • Complete assignments within deadlines or negotiate alternatives as needed.
  • Fulfill mandatory education and competency requirements annually.
  • Follow all safety, infection control, and employee health standards.
  • Demonstrate commitment to personal and professional growth.
  • Comply with all hospital policies, including attendance, punctuality, and confidentiality.
  • Respect designated break and lunch times.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current CNA certification required.
  • Ability to work under the supervision of licensed nurses and physicians.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to excellent patient care and customer service.
Compensation
  • Pay Range: $20.26 - $32.97/hr
  • Other Compensation (if applicable): Shift differentials
