Summary Description

The ED Tech I is a member of the emergency department patient care services team with primary responsibilities for technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care activities. The ED Tech I works under the supervision of a registered nurse, who delegates tasks based on patient needs, the Tech's skills, and scope of practice.

Responsibilities

1. Collaborates and cooperates with care team members to ensure quality of care and promotes productive employee relations. Demonstrates understanding of and commitment to continuous improvement, teamwork, and the mission, vision, and values of the DMC.
2. Assists the registered nurse by gathering data on patient conditions, observing patients directly, reporting changes, and documenting interventions and responses according to policy. Assists in responding to emergency patient situations.
3. Assists in training and orientation of other technicians and care team members as directed.
4. Follows departmental policies, procedures, and objectives; adheres to safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
5. Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy, answers questions, explains procedures within scope, and maintains confidentiality.
6. Performs clerical duties as needed, including answering phones, greeting patients and visitors.
7. Engages in personal growth through workshops, educational programs, and literature review. Shares accountability for maintaining competencies.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

1. High school diploma or GED.
2. Graduation from a school of practical nursing or
3. Completion of one of the following programs:
   • A Certified PCA/PCT Program
   • A Certified Nurse Assistant Program or equivalent training
   • A Medical Assistant Program
   • An EMT Program
   • A phlebotomy training program
4. Six (6) months of direct patient care experience preferred.
