Job summary

Carle Health is seeking an Emergency Department Technician to work under the ED physician and Resource Nurse. You will assist with patient care, maintain equipment, and support nursing staff in a fast-paced ED.

Qualifications include BLS within 30 days, completion of an EMT or CNA program, and an HS diploma or GED. This role involves vitally important hands‑on patient support and contributes to efficient department flow.

Qualifications

• BLS certification within 30 days of hire as required.

Responsibilities

• Answers call lights and provides comfort in coordination with nursing staff.
• Brings code cart and assists with cardiac compressions as needed.
• Cleans and sterilizes instruments and prepares them for use.
• Obtains supplies and equipment required for procedures.
• Documents patient care data in the medical record.
• Maintains department equipment in good working order.
• Performs wound care and preps for procedures under physician supervision.
• Prepares patients for transport and assists with transfers.
• Assists with sutures, splints, and wound care under supervision.
• Supports triage, rooming, and patient throughput to improve ED flow.
• Performs EKGs on Emergency Department patients.

Overview

The Emergency Department Technician functions within the department under the direction of the ED Physician and the ED Resource Nurse. The technician is responsible for maintaining equipment and supplies and providing patient care under the direct supervision of the medical and nursing staff.

Qualifications

Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA), Completion of EMT or CNA program

Education: H.S. Diploma/GED

Responsibilities

• Answers call lights and offers comfort measures to patients in coordination with nursing staff.
• Brings code cart to designated areas and provides cardiac compressions.
• Cleans instruments and prepares them for sterilization.
• Obtains supplies and equipment required for procedures.
• Documents appropriate patient care data in the medical record.
• Maintains department equipment in a functional manner.
• Performs wound irrigations, wound repairs, wound dressings, and surgical preps under the direct supervision of a physician.
• Prepares patients for transportation and transports patients as needed.
• Removes sutures from well-healed wounds under the direct supervision of a physician.
• Assists nursing staff with direct patient care within ED Tech scope of practice.
• Applies sutures and splints under the direction and supervision of provider staff.
• Facilitates patient throughput by assisting with triage, rooming, and transfers.
• Stocks linen and supplies in the Emergency Department.
• Performs EKGs on Emergency Department patients.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $17.89per hour - $28.98per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
