Job summary

Carle Health is seeking an Emergency Department Technician to assist ED physicians and nurses in delivering patient care under direct supervision. The role focuses on maintaining equipment and supplies, preparing patients for procedures, and supporting triage and throughput within the ED.

You will perform wound care, suction, EKGs, phlebotomy as ordered, transport patients, and help with injury assessments, while documenting data and ensuring a safe, efficient environment for patients and staff.

Qualifications

• BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
• High School Diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

• Answers call lights and offers comfort measures to patients with nursing staff.
• Brings code cart, provides cardiac compressions as needed.
• Cleans and sends instruments for sterilization.
• Obtains supplies and equipment for procedures.
• Documents patient data in charts during care.
• Maintains department equipment in working order.
• Orders supplies from storeroom and vendors as needed.
• Performs wound care and prep under physician supervision.
• Prepares patients for transport and transports as needed.
• Assists with direct patient care within ED Tech scope.
• Performs monitoring and documentation for psychiatric patients.
• Supports triage, rooming and transfers to facilitate throughput.
• Stocks linen and supplies in the ED.
• Performs EKGs and phlebotomy as ordered.

Overview

The Emergency Department Technician functions within the department under the direction of the ED Physician and the ED Nurse. The technician is responsible for maintaining equipment and supplies and providing patient care under the direct supervision of the medical and nursing staff.

Qualifications

• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)American Heart Association (AHA)
• Education: H.S. Diploma/GED

• Answers call lights and offers comfort measures to patients in coordination with nursing staff.
• Brings code cart to designated areas, provides cardiac compressions.
• Cleans and sends instruments for sterilization.
• Obtains supplies and equipment required for procedures.
• Documents appropriate data in patient chart when care is provided.
• Maintains all department equipment in a functional manner.
• Orders supplies and equipment from storeroom and specific vendors as needed.
• Performs wound irrigations, wound repair, wound dressings and surgical preps under the direct supervision of the physician.
• Prepares patient for transportation and transport.
• Assists nursing staff with direct patient care within ED Tech scope.
• Performs monitoring and documents appropriately for psychiatric population.
• Facilitates patient throughput into and out of the department by assisting with triage, rooming and transfers.
• Stocks linen and supplies in the ED.
• Performs EKGs and phlebotomy as order by ED provider.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $17.89per hour - $28.98per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
