Job summary

George Washington University Hospital's Emergency Department (ED) is a Level I Trauma Center in downtown Washington, DC, staffed 24/7 by board-certified physicians, NPs, and trauma-trained nurses.

As a Registered Nurse in the ED, you will provide critical care, perform assessments, administer medications, and educate patients and families while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure rapid, high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications

  • BSN or currently enrolled in nursing program.
  • DC RN License or eligibility to practice in DC.
  • At least 1 year of ED or critical care experience preferred.
  • Certification in BLS, ACLS, and PALS required.
  • TNCC certification within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care in a fast-paced ED setting.
  • Perform assessments, develop treatment plans, and implement care.
  • Administer medications, perform procedures, and monitor responses.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to optimize outcomes.

The George Washington University Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) provides comprehensive care for patients experiencing acute medical conditions, trauma, and critical illnesses. As a Level I Trauma Center, the ED at GW Hospital is equipped to handle the most complex emergency cases, with highly specialized teams available 24/7.

  • The Emergency Department is a 62-bed unit, including resuscitation rooms, fast-track areas, and specialized spaces for trauma, cardiac emergencies, and stroke.
  • Our ED is supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment facilities, with rapid access to radiology, laboratory, and surgical services.
  • The ED is staffed by board-certified emergency physicians, nurse practitioners, and a highly skilled team of emergency-trained nurses.

Job Summary:

As a Registered Nurse in our Level I Trauma Center's Emergency Department, you will be at the forefront of providing critical care to patients with a variety of urgent and life-threatening medical conditions. Our Emergency Department is known for its fast-paced environment and its commitment to excellence in patient care, teaching, and research. You will work alongside a dedicated team of medical professionals to deliver high-quality care and support to patients and their families during critical times.

Qualifications
  • BSN or currently enrolled.
  • DC RN License, or eligibility
  • At least 1 year of clinical experience in an emergency department or critical care setting is preferred.
  • Certification in BLS, ACLS, and PALS required.
  • T NCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification within 1 year of hire
  • Exceptional clinical skills and judgment.
  • Strong ability to work under pressure and react effectively in emergency situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
