Job summary

East Valley Hospital in Nevada seeks an experienced Emergency Department nurse to provide comprehensive patient care across all ages, from neonates to geriatric patients. You will assess, triage, administer medications, and supervise ER staff while collaborating with physicians to develop and implement care plans.

Qualified candidates will have two years of ER experience, active RN licensure, and current CPR/BCLS with ACLS/PALS preferred.

Qualifications

  • RN licensure in good standing; Nevada license preferred.
  • Minimum two years of emergency department experience.
  • Current CPR/BCLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC preferred (state requirements apply).
  • English reading, writing and speaking fluency required.

Responsibilities

  • Patient assessment: head-to-toe evaluations and psychosocial assessments on arrival.
  • Triage: assign categories based on urgency to ensure timely care.
  • Emergency care: treat patients of all ages per protocols.
  • Medication administration: follow the five rights and accurate dosing.
  • Supervision: oversee ER techs and support staff for efficient workflow.
  • Patient advocacy: explain procedures and plans to patients and families.
  • Collaboration: work with physicians to develop care plans.
  • Infection control: maintain sanitary conditions to promote safety.
  • Continuous education: engage in ongoing training and quality initiatives.

Job description

Responsibilities:
  • Patient Assessment:Conduct thorough head-to-toe assessments and psychosocial evaluations of patients when they arrive, determining the severity of their condition.
  • Triage:Assign triage categories to ensure timely care based on the urgency of each patient's condition.
  • Emergency Care:Provide care to patients of all ages, including neonates, children, adults, and geriatrics, following established protocols and guidelines.
  • Medication Administration:Administer medications accurately while adhering to the five rights of medication administration (right patient, right medication, right dose, right route, right time).
  • Supervision:Oversee the work of support staff such as Emergency Room Technicians (ERTs) and other healthcare personnel, ensuring a collaborative and efficient workflow.
  • Patient Advocacy:Communicate effectively with patients and their families, explaining procedures and treatment plans to provide emotional support and education.
  • Collaboration:Work closely with physicians and other healthcare staff to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Infection Control:Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment to prevent infection and promote patient safety.
  • Continuous Education:Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities, attending staff meetings, and engaging in quality improvement initiatives.
Position Requirements:

Two years of emergency room experience. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current Licensure with the State Board of Nurse Examiners for their state. Current BCLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC preferred Educational requirements appropriate for meeting the age-specific needs of patients presenting to the emergency center, including neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients, including emergency procedures required for stabilizing patients of all ages. Validate clinical skills outlined in the orientation checklist and maintain annual clinical competency. Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.

Working Conditions:

Physical Demands—While performing the duties of this job, the employee must lift and move up to 50 pounds with good body mechanics and frequently stand. Walk for up to 8 hours, and frequent bending and twisting motions are required. Adverse/Hazardous Conditions - Potential injuries from physical efforts and chemical irritants. Potential exposure to body fluids and infectious diseases.
