Job summary

Astera Health is seeking a Part-Time ED Physician to join our Emergency Department. This role involves on-site duties with 4–6 24-hour shifts per month, providing acute and life-saving patient care in a high-volume ED environment.

The position requires current board eligibility or certification in Family or Emergency Medicine, Minnesota medical license, DEA, CALS, and NRP (or equivalents). On-site availability and rapid response are essential for Code Blue responses and hospital operations.

• Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality clinical care in a fast-paced ED.

Responsibilities

• Provide and manage direct patient care in the Emergency Department.
• Respond to Code Blue events within the facility.
• Provide clinical supervision for nurses and ancillary staff in the ED.
• Oversee ReadyCare supervision after hours and on holidays.
• Determine next treatment steps for labs or radiology results requiring same-day assessment.
• Transition care of patients to the oncoming Hospitalist at shift end.
• Remain on-site when scheduled, with rapid response capability within 15 minutes.

Astera Health is seeking a Part-Time ED Physician to join our Emergency Department. This position is benefit eligible, scheduled for 4-6 24-hour shifts per month.The primary function of this position is to provide medical treatment to patients requiring acute and life-saving care.Essential Duties:Supports the mission of Astera Health through personal conduct and behaviors that contribute ideas and suggestions, is helpful and friendly, demonstrates regular attendance and punctuality, and adheres to organizational policies and rules.Be a role model of Astera Health culture and core values.Performs patient assessments and treatments as outlined in the ER Physician privilege list.ER physician is expected to be an on-site position when scheduled. The physician may occasionally leave the building for up to 30 minutes but must be able to respond to the hospital (ER or elsewhere in the facility) when summoned by hospital staff within 15 minutes.Provide and manage the direct patient care for patients in the Emergency Department.Responds to Code Blue events within the facility.Provides clinical supervision for nurses and ancillary staff performing in the ER and other staff (physician assistants, student interns, etc. if assigned).Evening/Night Roles and Responsibilities (“Hospitalist”):ReadyCare supervision after normal clinic hours and on Saturdays/holidays. This includes supervision of patients needing additional care beyond the scope of ReadyCare and being a clinical resource for the ReadyCare staff. (This excludes direct admissions from ReadyCare which will be managed by the “Hospitalist”.)Determines next treatment steps for Lab or Radiology results requiring same day assessment and actions after 1900. Results that do not require same day follow up with be forwarded to the patient’s PCP and if the PCP is not available, to the “Hospitalist” that was working when the ordered originated.Triages and responds to areas outside organizations (Nursing Homes, Group Homes and Hospice) related to emergent treatment questions or required physician notifications (such as resident death notifications, medication error reporting, etc.)Responds to nursing staff for Inpatient questions and management.
