Job summary

Education

Required – High school diploma or equivalent.

Graduation from an approved Paramedic Program.

Work Experience

Required – None.

Preferred – Emergency Medical Services (EMS) or Hospital Experience.

Certifications
  • Required – Paramedic License in the State of Practice.
  • Certified with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians as a Paramedic.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) to be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification to be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to the role and keyboard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Self‑directed, including the ability to work independently.
  • Effective planning, organizing, and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to identify medical emergencies and assist with management.
Job Duties
  • Provides direct patient care within the scope of the license, under physician supervision. This may include medical treatment of wounds at the basic/intermediate/advanced level, administering medications by pre‑established protocol including vasoactive medications, drawing bloodwork, placing splints/boots/etc., Foley insertion, use of glucometer, I‑STAT, Kurin, vital signs (rectal temps/immunocompromised), and IV fluid administration. The position may administer preset protocols and standing orders as ordered by a physician.
  • Performs clinical job duties as defined in the orientation packet for skills checkoff and is monitored on an annual basis through annual competency assessment.
  • Supports physicians, nursing, and hospital administration by accepting established objectives, policies and procedures, and demonstrates understanding of and compliance with EMTALA regulations.
  • Accurately documents patient‑related tasks.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy and appropriate communication style.
  • Other related duties as required.
Physical and Environmental Demands

Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Duties routinely require exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue. The incumbent works in patient care areas and may be at risk for exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous medications or waste. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
