Job summary

CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck seeks a Student Nurse Tech to support nursing staff and patients under RN supervision. You will perform delegated patient care and document clinical activities within defined tasks, while preparing patients and rooms for procedures and assisting with basic needs.

Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program is required, with registry eligibility and BLS certification on hire. This role supports a dynamic care team in a regional hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment and in good standing in a full time Nursing Program such as an accredited Baccalaureate Nursing Program or RN Associate Degree program or LPN to RN nursing program
  • Must be listed on a Nurse Assistant Registry operated by the North Dakota Board of Nursing, State Department and consolidated Laboratories by the North Dakota Board of Nursing, If not on a registry, then must obtain placement on one immediately following orientation and training by St. Alexius Medical Center as stated in the policy “Eligibility for Employment as Nurse Assistant”
  • BLS or BLS instructor certification required upon hire. Refer to policy “Licensed, Certified, and Registered Employees” for acceptable life support cards

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient personal care/hygiene and comfort within assigned tasks, including feeding, bathing, changing clothes, bed making, ambulation, turning, moving, and basic elimination.
  • Monitors, reports and documents all clinical activities within assigned tasks; observes and reports changes in patient condition to the RN.
  • Assists nursing staff with admission, discharge and transfer by handling belongings, providing care items, orienting patient/family, and transporting patients as needed.
  • Provides patient information to nursing staff for the interdisciplinary care plan; documents relevant data per unit standards.
  • Keeps a neat, organized work environment; orders, stocks and replenishes supplies, and reports issues with supplies or equipment.
  • Participates in quality assurance/improvement initiatives and in ongoing education and orientation to the RN role within scope.
  • Actively participates in ongoing education and orientation to the role of an RN, remaining within scope at all times

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Student Nurse Tech, you will be responsible for providing nursing care and support to patients under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse in a defined care team and in accordance with assigned tasks. An incumbent assumes responsibility, implementation and documentation of the delegated and/or supervised cares of all assigned patients according to established procedures.

Everyday you will care for patients with a variety of acute to critical medical/surgical problems ranging from neonates to geriatrics at various developmental levels. Patients are from both traditional and nontraditional family structures with a variety of sociocultural and educational backgrounds.

To be successful in this role you must be currently enrolled and in good standing in a full time Nursing Program such as an accredited Baccalaureate Nursing Program or RN Associate Degree program or LPN to RN nursing program and excited to continue your career in the field of nursing.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides patient personal care/hygiene a physical comfort within assigned tasks, including feeding, bathing, shaving, changing clothes, bed making, ambulation, lifting, turning, moving, transferring, enemas, skin care and bowel/bladder elimination. Provides such additional care as required to meet the personal primary needs and comfort of assigned patient based on skill, ability, and patient acuity. Prepares patient, equipment and supplies for specific procedures/examinations
  • Performs, monitors, reports and documents all clinical activities within assigned tasks. Observes and reports changes in patient condition to the RN
  • Assists nursing staff in the admission, discharge and transfer of patient by performing activities such as inventory/storing patient belongings, providing patient with relevant personal care/comfort items, orienting patient/family and transporting patient to room or other location using wheelchairs, stretchers or patient bed
  • Provides patient information to nursing staff for inclusion in the interdisciplinary plan of care; documents relevant patient data in accordance with work unit standards
  • Maintains a neat and organized work environment. Orders, stocks and replenishes supplies and equipment as necessary, identifies and reports problems with supplies or equipment; enters equipment repair request in system, tags equipment and removes from service
  • Participates in quality assurance/improvement initiatives and activities. Participates in growth opportunities
  • Actively participates in ongoing education and orientation to the role of an RN, remaining within scope at all times
