Job summary

CHI St. Alexius Health in North Dakota seeks a Nurse Tech to assist nursing staff in delivering direct patient care and maintaining compassionate, healing environment. You will support daily living activities, monitor patients, and document actions.

You must be a high school graduate, be enrolled in a nursing program, and be listed on the Nurse Assistant Registry or eligible after orientation; BLS certification is required within orientation.

  • Support admission, discharge, and patient transitions.
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary care planning and maintain organized work areas.
  • Manage supplies and ensure equipment functionality with quality checks.
  • Engage in quality improvement and RN orientation as required.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Nurse Tech, you will help nursing staff deliver individual patient care so they can maintain standards of nursing practice and contribute to a compassionate, healing environment for patients, families, and visitors. Every day you will provide direct patient care, assist with daily living activities, and ensure patient stability. You will be expected to adhere to St. Alexius Medical Center’s mission and values, maintain quality of care according to policies, give personal hygiene assistance, assist with feeding, ambulating, and positioning, monitor vital signs and report changes, respond to call lights, maintain a safe environment, and document actions. To be successful in this role, you must have a high school diploma or equivalent, be listed on a Nurse Assistant Registry (or obtain placement immediately after orientation), possess good communication and interpersonal skills, be able to organize assignments and work under pressure, and obtain Basic Life Support Certification within the orientation period.

  • Patient Personal Care: Performs daily living assistance, including hygiene, feeding, mobility support, and specialized clinical tasks like skin care and bowel/bladder elimination
  • Clinical Monitoring & Reporting: Monitors patient conditions, documents all activities accurately, and promptly reports any clinical changes to the RN
  • Admission & Discharge Support: Assists with patient transitions by inventorying belongings, orienting families, and safely transporting patients throughout the facility
  • Care Coordination: Contributes essential patient data to the interdisciplinary plan of care and maintains organized, well‑stocked work areas for efficient operation
  • Resource & Equipment Management: Oversees supply inventory and ensures equipment is functional by performing quality checks, reporting repairs, and tagging faulty items for removal
  • Professional Development: Engages in quality improvement initiatives, pursues continuous learning, and participates in RN‑role orientation while strictly adhering to scope‑of‑practice standards
Job Requirements: Required
  • High school graduate or equivalent work experience including ability to read, write, and comprehend medical terminology
  • Current enrollment and in good standing in a full time Nursing Program such as an accredited Baccalaureate Nursing Program or RN Associate Degree program or LPN to RN nursing program.
  • Must be listed on a Nurse Assistant Registry operated by the North Dakota Board of Nursing, State Department and consolidated Laboratories by the North Dakota Board of Nursing, If not on a registry, then must obtain placement on one immediately following orientation and training by St. Alexius Medical Center as stated in the policy “Eligibility for Employment as Nurse Assistant
  • BLS or BLS instructor certification required upon hire. Refer to policy “Licensed, Certified, and Registered Employees” for acceptable life support cards
Preferred
  • Able to organize assignments and work under pressure. Basic Life Support Certification within the orientation period and meets re‑certification as required
