Position Description Summary

Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania invites applications for temporary faculty positions (full-time one semester, part-time one semester or part-time academic year) as needs arise in the Department of Counseling and Educational Leadership for the Pk-12 Principal or Curriculum and Instruction Supervisory Certification programs. These programs allow students to gain knowledge, skills, and dispositions to impact student success and outcomes as a building or district level school administrator: https://www.bloomu.edu/academics/programs/principal-certification-pk-12-med

Based on the specific needs of the department at the time of appointment, a successful applicant must be qualified to teach graduate level courses and/or supervise internships. Courses may include: Intro to Educational Leadership, Organizational Behavior and Program Development, Curriculum Theory and Design, Supervision of Curriculum and Instruction, School Law, Ethics, and Finance, The Effective School Principal, , and/or other related courses.

The location for these temporary positions varies with the expectation of serving a multi-campus University within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.

Duties

Candidates will be expected to plan and deliver instruction through multiple modes of instruction including: face to face, asynchronous, synchronous, distance education, or multi-modal/dual-location teaching. In addition to teaching classes, temporary faculty are expected to hold office hours, engage with departmental faculty, attend department meetings, complete scholarly activities related to the position, and engage in service activities.

Qualifying Experience and Education (Minimum/Preferred)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Education requirement: Masters Degree in Educational Leadership or other closely related field.
  • Three years’ experience as a curriculum director, principal, assistant principal, or other school administrative position
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or related discipline
  • Five years’ experience as a curriculum director, principal, assistant principal, or other school administrative position
  • Two years of full-time prior experience teaching graduate courses in Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Leadership
  • Experience using synchronous and asynchronous teaching technology (e.g., course management system, Zoom, video and audio recording programs)

Faculty may be assigned to provide instruction through distance education.

Offers of employment are conditional, pending successful completion of the background clearances mandated by Act 153 of 2014 and Board of Governors Policy 2014-01-A: Protection of Minors. In order to qualify for a provisional appointment, the Applicant Acknowledgement Consent Form, Provisional Hire Form, Pennsylvania State Police and Justifacts portion of the clearance process must be successfully completed prior to your start date. The remaining PA Child Abuse History Clearance and FBI Clearance must be successfully completed and returned as soon as possible within the first 90 days of employment.
