Summary: Under the direction of the System Director of Outpatient and Integrated Behavioral Health, ED Clinicians will function as clinical Behavioral Health clinicians in the Emergency Department and will conduct emergency clinical assessments of patients. Clinicians will convey clinical findings and initial treatment and/or referral recommendations to Emergency Room providers. Clinicians will work in collaboration with the ED team and consult with psychiatry to determine options for the appropriate level of care. Clinicians will have a working knowledge of insurance prior authorization, medical necessity criteria, and ASAM criteria. Clinicians will have the ability to handle crisis situations in a calm and responsible manner; knowledge of psychiatric medications, community resources, and alternative levels of care is required. Ability to manage complex situations with multiple variables in a fast-paced environment.
Education: Broad knowledge of social work and clinical practices, Master’s Degree required as well as licensure as LICSW, LMFT, LMHC necessary. Rhode Island accredited graduate program required. LCSW considered, LICSW to be obtained within 6 months of hire.
Licensure: Licensure in the mental health field required.
Experience: Minimum one year psychiatric experience is required, preferably in Emergency Services.
Working Conditions, Physical Environment and/or Safety Requirements: Lifting up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such items as files, books, etc. Involves sitting, walking, stooping, and reaching. Access to reliable transportation.
