Job summary

San Antonio Behavioral Healthcare Hospital seeks an ECT Administrative RN to manage scheduling, records, and communications for electroconvulsive therapy. You will support the medical team during procedures while upholding patient safety and confidentiality.

Requirements include ADN or BSN, Texas RN license, and 1–3 years in behavioral health, PACU, or ICU. ALS and de-escalation training are required before orientation. This role is on-site in Texas with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

  • RN license in good standing; Texas RN license
  • 1–3 years RN work experience in behavioral health, PACU, or ICU
  • Complete new hire orientation and competency training
  • Must possess or obtain ALS certification and de-escalation training before orientation

Responsibilities

  • Schedule ECT treatments and coordinate with providers for pre- and post-assessments
  • Maintain accurate patient records in line with HIPAA guidelines and treatment plans
  • Obtain informed consent and explain procedures, risks, and benefits to patients
  • Coordinate care with psychiatrists, nurses, and admin staff for smooth ECT delivery
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and documentation requirements
  • Enter data into medical records, generate treatment reports, and track outcomes
  • Provide information and emotional support to patients and families about the ECT process
  • Prepare treatment rooms and check ECT equipment functionality
  • Meet with inpatient candidates to assess eligibility for ECT
  • Review medical necessity and appropriateness of treatments; communicate with insurers for authorization
  • Engage in community outreach to explain ECT requirements and benefits
  • Participate in discharge planning and ECT psychoeducation

Job description

An ECT admin, or Electroconvulsive Therapy administrator, is responsible for managing the administrative aspects of ECT treatments, including patient scheduling, record-keeping, communication with healthcare teams, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing support to the ECT medical team during procedures, all while prioritizing patient safety and confidentiality. Assists with ECT procedures.

Essential Duties:
  • Managing patient appointments for ECT treatments, coordinating with other healthcare providers to schedule necessary pre- and post-treatment assessments, and ensuring timely communication regarding appointment details
  • Maintaining comprehensive and accurate patient records, including medical history, consent forms, treatment plans, and ECT procedure documentation, adhering to HIPAA guidelines
  • Assisting the medical team in obtaining informed consent from patients regarding ECT treatment, explaining procedures and potential risks and benefits clearly
  • Communicating with various healthcare professionals including psychiatrists, nurses, and other administrative staff to coordinate patient care and ensure smooth treatment delivery
  • Monitoring and maintaining adherence to all relevant healthcare regulations and standards related to ECT administration, including documentation requirements and reporting protocols
  • Entering patient data into medical records, generating reports on treatment outcomes, and tracking key metrics related to ECT procedures
  • Providing emotional support and answering questions for patients and their families regarding the ECT process, addressing concerns and providing necessary information
  • Preparing treatment rooms and equipment for ECT procedures, including checking the functionality of the ECT machine, and ensuring all necessary supplies are available
  • Meet with inpatient candidates to discuss treatment and work with providers to determine patients meet the requirements for ECT treatment
  • Performs utilization and review by evaluating the medical necessity and appropriateness of ECT treatments provided to a patient, ensuring that care is delivered efficiently and aligns with evidence‑based standards
  • Communicates with appropriate insurance company regarding obtaining the authorization for the ECT Treatment to include collateral or follow‑up information
  • Conducts community outreach to outline the requirements and benefits to ECT as a medical procedure
  • Participates in family meeting for discharge planning and ECT psychoeducation
  • Coordinates patient care Post procedure
  • Performs additional duties as requested

Requirements

ADN or BSN degree and a valid Texas RN license in good standing.

1-3 years RN work experience in a behavioral health, PACU, or ICU setting required.

Must complete all new hire orientation and competency training.

Additional Requirements:

Must possess or obtain a valid ALS certification and de‑escalation training before completing new hire orientation.

Physical Requirements:
  • Standing and walking for 8-12‑hour shifts, often with minimal breaks
  • Ability to quickly move, intervene, or participate in restraining patients if necessary for safety, requiring strength and coordination
  • Bending, lifting, stooping, kneeling, and crouching are required
  • Clear sight and hearing to monitor patient behavior, hear alarms, and communicate effectively, sometimes in noisy environments
  • Potential exposure to hostile or agitated individuals, odors, and sometimes loud noises
  • The ability to handle high‑stress situations over long, consecutive work hours
