Job description

The North America Stores Regionalization team at Amazon is seeking a highly skilled Economist II to lead experimental design, feature validation, and treatment effect analysis for ReSES, an experimental system testing high-impact initiatives. These initiatives aim to improve how Amazon connects customers with nearby product offers and local inventory, enhancing shopping efficiency and delivery speed.

Regionalization plays a crucial role in optimizing Amazon's retail operations by streamlining fulfillment networks, reducing customer costs, offering relevant local purchase options, and improving the overall shopping experience. In this role, you will analyze customer preferences, sales economics, and product substitutability to identify products that benefit from regional availability. You will employ advanced scientific and econometric tools to simulate regions, validate High Value Actions, calculate substitution effects, and support regional strategies across the business. Ensuring compatibility with existing buying and merchandising systems and meeting retail teams' needs worldwide will be essential. Your responsibilities include designing, evaluating, and refining simulations and experiments for regional programs to enhance customer experience and optimize Long Term Free Cash Flow (LTFCF).

Key responsibilities
  1. Design A/B tests and experiments related to regionalization and analyze their results.
  2. Develop and scale optimization techniques to drive business value.
  3. Apply and develop scalable methods in time-series econometrics to address business questions.
  4. Translate business concerns into specific quantitative questions answerable with available data and rigorous science.
  5. Partner with scientists and data engineers to deploy models into production.
  6. Communicate findings effectively to stakeholders and provide scientific guidance to senior leadership.
