Job description

Publishers Clearing House (PCH) is re-launching its iconic e-commerce business and we're looking for an experienced web developer to help spearhead our efforts.

This is a chance to modernize a beloved brand for the digital age. You'll work at the intersection of commerce, rewards, and membership—building the technical foundation for PCH's next chapter. You'll have direct influence on architecture decisions, revenue outcomes, and the experience for millions of members.

What Makes This Role Unique
  • Shape identity, membership, and architecture from the ground up
  • Real digital transformation at an iconic 70+ year old brand
  • High-impact work spanning commerce, rewards, and subscriptions
  • Direct collaboration with leadership and product stakeholders
What You'll Work On

Extend and maintain our Shopify storefront — themes, Liquid templating, apps, and APIs

Build headless front-end experiences — custom pages, dashboards, microsites, and Club member UI

Implement Stytch authentication as our primary identity system:

  • Session management and authenticated user states
  • Membership-aware UI (Club vs non-Club experiences)

Integrate headless front-ends with:

  • Shopify Storefront API (products, carts, checkout)
  • Shopify webhooks (orders, fulfillment, entitlements)
  • Internal APIs for rewards, entries, and promotions

Help define our hybrid architecture — strategically combining Shopify with headless capabilities

Optimize for performance, SEO, analytics, and conversion

Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, marketing, and compliance teams

Required Experience

Shopify Expertise:

  • Liquid templating
  • Shopify Storefront & Admin APIs
  • Theme customization and app integration

Headless Development:

  • React-based front-ends
  • Next.js or similar SSR-capable frameworks
  • API-driven architectures
  • Stytch or comparable auth providers (Auth0, Clerk, Firebase Auth)
  • Custom auth UI implementation (not just drop-in widgets)
  • Session handling, protected routes, and user state management

Core Skills:

  • HTML / CSS
  • RESTful and GraphQL APIs

Nice to Have

  • Experience with subscription or membership platforms
  • Rewards, loyalty, or promotional systems
  • Fraud prevention or abuse mitigation strategies
  • Vercel or AWS deployments
  • CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
  • Analytics and event tracking (Segment, Google Analytics, etc.)
  • Background on high-traffic consumer or e-commerce platforms
What We're Looking For
  • Builder mindset — pragmatic, fast-moving, and impact-focused
  • Hybrid comfort — equally at home working with platforms (Shopify) and custom code
  • Ownership orientation — able to see projects through from concept to launch
  • Collaborative approach — works well with non-technical stakeholders
  • Passion for quality — writes maintainable code and values user experience
Success in Your First 6 Months
  • Ship the new Stytch authentication system across key user flows
  • Launch at least one major headless experience (Club dashboard or custom landing pages)
  • Establish patterns and documentation for our hybrid architecture
  • Improve key conversion metrics and site performance
  • Become the go-to expert on our Shopify + headless stack
Our Team & Culture

You'll be joining a lean, collaborative engineering team that values pragmatism over perfection. We move quickly, ship iteratively, and focus on business impact. You'll work closely with our Engineering Lead and have direct access to product and executive leadership.

We're building a modern engineering culture at a legacy brand—which means you'll have the opportunity to establish best practices, choose tools, and influence technical direction.

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, plus a range of additional voluntary benefits
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Flexible PTO and 15 paid holidays to rest and reset
  • Remote-first culture with home office stipend
  • 12 weeks of paid family leave to celebrate life’s biggest moments
Interview Process

Our interview process is simple and collaborative. You’ll start with a quick HR chat, then meet with the team to get to know each other and dive into your experience. Next, we’ll have a technical deep dive focused on Shopify, headless architecture, and past projects, followed by a code review or practical exercise. Final candidates will meet with leadership and product partners before an offer is made. We move quickly and aim to complete the process within two weeks of initial outreach!

How to Apply

Submit your resume and a brief note about why this role interests you. Bonus points if you include:

  • Link to your GitHub/portfolio
  • A Shopify store or headless project you've built
  • Your thoughts on hybrid architecture approaches
