Job summary

Missouri Botanical Garden seeks an Ecological Restoration Technician to support native biodiversity management and restoration across Shaw Nature Reserve. The role involves controlling invasive species, seed collection, data entry, and operating power equipment in collaboration with volunteers.

Ideal candidates have 1–3 years of relevant experience, a biology/ecology background, and the ability to work outdoors in varying conditions while adhering to safety and restoration protocols.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1–3 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in invasive species control.
• Ability to learn and apply safely the operation protocols for chainsaws and tractors.
• Understanding of the ecological role of fire in natural areas and willingness to contribute to prescribed fire operations.
• Experience with computers for data recording and management.

Responsibilities

• Control invasive species using manual, mechanical, or chemical methods including chainsaw operation.
• Participate in prairie, woodland, and glade restoration by collecting, cleaning, and sowing seeds; maintain seed lists/databases.
• Assist in prescribed fire program including fire break prep, scouting, monitoring, and implementation.
• Operate skid loaders and tractors safely per manuals and OSHA guidelines.
• Work with volunteers on a regular basis and maintain activity data in management records.
• Follow safety standards and communicate guidelines to staff and volunteers; report accidents promptly.
• Maintain attendance and adhere to policies and procedures; promote teamwork and cooperation.
