Job summary

Children's of Alabama is seeking an ECMO Specialist for the Main Campus ECMO program. This role is for registered nurses or certified/registered respiratory therapists who operate ECMO circuits for pediatric patients requiring long-term pulmonary or cardiac support.

Work is on the Weekend Shift with 12-hour evenings/nights; candidates must be able to stay calm under pressure and participate in a 24-hour on-call rotation as needed.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse licensed in Alabama (or NLC multi-state).
  • Basic Life Support certification required.
  • Minimum 1 year staff experience in critical care.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain ECMO circuit for pediatric patients.
  • Follow standing ECMO orders and guidelines under physician direction.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to ensure safety and quality care.

In Critical Care ECMO at Main Campus Quarterback Tower

Work schedule will be Weekends on the Weekend Shift, Saturday/Sunday PM.

Summary: The ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) Specialist is a professional registered nurse/ certified or registered respiratory therapist who operates and maintains the ECMO Circuit for patients requiring extracorporeal support for long term pulmonary or cardiac support. The ECMO Specialist functions independently under the direction of the ECMO physician, following standing ECMO orders and guidelines.

Other information:

  • Ability to use medical equipment, patient records, reports, and computer.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Available to take call on 24 hour basis as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of all areas/ patient populations where ECMO is initiated and maintained.
Credentials with Equivalent Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Registered Nurse AL Single State or any of the following equivalent qualifications below:
    • Registered Nurse AL NLC Multi State
    • Registered Nurse Non-AL NLC Multi State
    • Registered Respiratory Therapist and Licensed Registered Respiratory Therapist
    • Certified Respiratory Therapist and Licensed Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Basic Life Support
Education with Equivalent Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing in Nursing or Bachelors of Science or Arts in Nursing
Experience with Equivalent Qualifications:

Essential:

  • 1 Year Staff Level
