Job Details

The Echocardiography Technologist performs complete echocardiographic examinations including M-mode, two-dimension and Doppler Echocardiography on clinical and/or research patients. Assists the Cardiologist, Fellows or other appropriate personnel in performing transesophageal echocardiographic and stress echocardiographic examinations. He/she may also assist in coordinating efficient patient flow, staff assignments, educational support, and ensuring high-quality procedures in accordance with IAC standards for Echocardiography.

Job Responsibilities
  • Escort patients from waiting areas to examination rooms, review written history questionnaires, and explain the nature of tests to patients.
  • Perform echocardiograms, including 2D, M-mode, and color Doppler, following department policies and physician orders.
  • Conduct transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE) and stress echocardiograms as per departmental protocols.
  • Maintain accurate logs of patient/test data for billing and record-keeping.
  • Monitor and maintain clinical equipment to ensure testing quality and safety.
  • Maintain images within the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Disinfect and sterilize clinical equipment to ensure safety from pathogens.
  • Participate in on-call duties as per departmental policy and perform other assigned duties.
Required Competencies
  • Effective communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of heart function monitoring and ability to detect arrhythmias and emergencies.
  • Proficiency in cardiac testing and echocardiography principles.
  • Experience with medical record keeping and equipment use.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma and completion of a two-year accredited echocardiography or cardiovascular technology program.
  • Preferred: 1+ year of echocardiogram experience.
