Job Details

The Echocardiography Technologist performs complete echocardiographic examinations, including M-mode, two-dimensional, and Doppler Echocardiography on clinical and/or research patients. Assists the Cardiologist, Fellows, or other appropriate personnel in performing transesophageal and stress echocardiographic examinations. May also assist in coordinating patient flow, staff assignments, educational support, and ensuring procedures meet IAC standards for Echocardiography.

Job Description

• Escort patients from waiting area to examination room, review written history questionnaires, and explain the nature of the test.
• Perform echocardiograms (2D, M-mode, color Doppler) according to department policy and physician orders.
• Perform transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE) on non-operative/intra-operative basis following department policies.
• Conduct dobutamine stress echocardiograms (DSE) and stress echocardiograms as per department standards.
• Log all relevant patient/test data for accurate billing and record keeping.
• Monitor and maintain clinical equipment to ensure testing quality and safety.
• Maintain images in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Clean, disinfect, and sterilize clinical equipment to ensure safety from pathogens.
• Participate in on-call duties as per department policy and perform other duties as assigned.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

• Effective communication skills for transmitting and receiving information accurately.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in processing information.
• Knowledge of heart functions, ability to detect arrhythmias, and assist in emergency responses.
• Proficiency in using equipment for cardiac examination following protocols.
• Understanding of echocardiography principles and ability to perform diagnostic procedures.
• Knowledge of medical record documentation processes.
• Familiarity with healthcare equipment and devices.

Minimum Education and Experience

• High school diploma and completion of a CAAHEP-accredited echocardiography or cardiovascular technology program.
• Preferred: 1+ years of echocardiogram experience.
