Job summary

University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) is seeking an Echocardiography Technician to perform comprehensive echocardiography studies including 2-D, M-Mode, Doppler, contrast, stress echo, and transesophageal procedures. You will support scheduling and logistics in the non-invasive lab while ensuring patient safety and comfort.

The role requires knowledge of ultrasound techniques, strong communication, and the ability to work with a diverse patient population.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an electrocardiography course or associate degree in Diagnostic Sonography, Cardiovascular Technology or Ultrasound.
  • RDCS/RCS registry via ARDMS or RCI registry via CCI preferred; CPR required.
  • HIPAA, infection control knowledge, and OSHA standards are essential.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform echocardiography examinations (2-D, M-Mode, Doppler, contrast, stress echo, transesophageal).
  • Operate ECG/echocardiography equipment and coordinate scheduling of tests/procedures in non-invasive areas.

The Echocardiography Technician performs echocardiography examinations for subsequent evaluation and interpretation by a physician. Assists in the coordination of the scheduling of tests and procedures in the non-invasive areas. Operates the Diagnostic ECG/Echocardiography equipment; Performs studies to include: Echocardiograms 2-D, M-Mode, Doppler, contrast, stress echo, and transesophageal. Provides care to patients of varying ages and age-related needs.

Summary:

Required Skills:
  • Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of patient information.
  • Knowledgeable with Infection Control Standard Precautions and OSHA standards for healthcare professional
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (face mask, goggles, latex/non-latex gloves) as needed.
  • Must be mature and responsible, able to use initiative and independent judgment when necessary, and capable of working without supervision within guidelines established by the supervisor.
  • Thorough knowledge of all phases of Echocardiography, EKG, and other special cardiac diagnostic equipment.
  • Technically competent in tasks within the scope of practice of an Echocardiography Technician. Knowledge of ultrasound techniques should be thorough.
  • Possesses effective oral and written communication skills. Knowledgeable of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Possesses effective interpersonal relationship skills. Ability to work effectively within role and with other team members.
  • Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.
  • Ability to organize and complete work in a timely manner.
  • Ability to understand medical/surgical Terminology
  • Ability to perform basic computer keyboard skills.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
One Year Of Experience As Echocardiography Tech Preferred.
License/Registration/Certification:

RDCS or RCS registry through ARDMS, or RCI registry through CCI preferred. Current CPR required.

Education and Training:

High School diploma or equivalent

Completion of an electrocardiography course or Associates of Applied Science in Diagnostic Sonography, Cardiovascular Technology or Ultrasound required.
