Job summary

UPMC Hamot Heart Institute is seeking a full-time Echocardiographer to join our cardiovascular team. The role requires expertise in cardiac imaging and collaboration with cardiologists to diagnose and treat heart disease.

The position includes 8-hour shifts, weekend rotation, and on-call responsibilities. Echo experience is strongly preferred but not required, with eligibility for a sign-on bonus based on education and experience.

Qualifications

  • Completion of formal training in an accredited ultrasound program or professional equivalent.
  • 2 years of echo experience required.
  • ARDMS registries and CPR/BLS certifications as required by the unit.

Responsibilities

  • Performs QA, regulatory testing, and participates in research initiatives.
  • Demonstrates ability to function independently, cover shifts, and assist at satellite facilities.
  • Educates new hires and students, serving as a resource in their areas of expertise.
  • Participates in system-wide standardization with cardiology protocol development.
  • Shows advanced knowledge of normal anatomy and pathology to aid communication with physicians.
  • Performs all job responsibilities of Level I Sonographer and adheres to department policies.

Job description

UPMC Hamot Heart Institute is seeking a full-time Echocardiographer to join our highly skilled cardiovascular team. This role is ideal for an experienced sonographer who is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care, working closely with cardiologists, and using advanced imaging technology to help diagnose and treat heart disease.

Schedule
  • Full-time
  • 8-hour shifts
  • Start times of 6:30 AM, 7:00 AM, or 7:30 AM
  • Weekend rotation
  • On-call rotation

Echo experience is strongly preferred but not required.

Candidates will be placed in the career ladder based on education, experience, and manager discretion.

This position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus with work commitment.

Performs imaging procedures at an advanced level not requiring constant supervision. Competently performs a variety of advanced technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity and a broad knowledge of cardiac pathology.

Responsibilities
  • Performs or assists Lead Sonographer or Clinical Specialist in performing QA, regulatory testing, and other technical and research initiatives.
  • Demonstrates the ability to function independently, and is able to cover off shifts, on-call responsibilities, and perform services at satellite facilities, where applicable, while continually communicating with lead and management team. Demonstrates a working knowledge of equipment and processes and is able to troubleshoot issues.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn new skills and a willingness to educate others in their areas of expertise. Serves as a resource for new hires and students.
  • Participates in standardization activities with system-level workgroups. Works directly with Cardiologists regarding protocol development.
  • Exhibits advanced level of knowledge related to normal anatomy and pathology. Able to recognize pathology and the ability to think critically, assessing the patient results for communication with the physician.
  • Performs all job responsibilities of Level I Sonographer.
  • Conduct himself/herself in accordance with system-wide and departmental values, policies, and procedures.

Completion of formal training in an accredited ultrasound program or professional equivalent required.

2 years of echo experience required. Performance review consistent with minimum of Strong Solid performance on last performance review.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances

Registry Required CPR/BLS requiredAct 33, 34, 73 as required by business unit

ARDMS within 12 months of hire or transfer Act 31 Mandated reporter training within 90 days of hire or transfer

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer OR Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
