Job description

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, performs cardiac ultrasonic procedures, obtains necessary images, prepares studies for interpretation by a Cardiologist, reviews data, and may confer with medical personnel regarding results. Reviews medical records to identify significant medical history to anticipate possible impacts on tests, and performs other related duties.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Performs echocardiogram procedures:
2. Utilizes ultrasound modalities such as 2-D, M-Mode, color flow, and Doppler testing for visualization of cardiac structures, prostheses, and arterial and venous flow.
3. Obtains patient history and records information in patient charts.
4. Positions patients and manipulates equipment to obtain optimal images for diagnostic interpretation.
5. Confirms or excludes primary and secondary findings based on clinical information.
6. Records, documents, edits, and calculates data; confers with Cardiologists on imaging areas beyond standard protocols.
7. Assists physicians with transesophageal echocardiography procedures.
8. Adjusts and sets up equipment, checks functionality, sterilizes probes, orders supplies, and arranges for major repairs if needed.
9. Responds to STAT requests from physicians and relays findings promptly.
10. Maintains logs and files of procedures, processing reports, and indexing cases for retrieval.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience:

Minimum of one (1) year in Echocardiography with Doppler; working knowledge of echocardiograph equipment and procedures; ability to maneuver equipment exceeding 500 lbs; clear communication skills; registered or registry eligible in Echocardiography.

Education:

Graduate of an accredited Echocardiography program or equivalent on-the-job training.
