Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is seeking an Echo Technologist (Cardiac Sonographer) to produce two-dimensional cardiac ultrasound recordings for diagnosis and study of heart function. You will perform echocardiography procedures, stress echoes, bubble studies, and contrast studies while adhering to department protocols and safety standards.

You will operate ultrasound equipment, maintain equipment cleanliness, and collaborate with physicians to provide accurate diagnostic information.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited diagnostic ultrasound/echo program.
  • Minimum one year post-graduate cardiac ultrasound experience preferred.
  • Current ARDMS registration or CCI RCS certification.
  • Current BLS certification for healthcare providers.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients and performs ultrasound examinations per physician orders and protocols.
  • Provides patient-centered care across all ages, explains procedures, reviews history and ensures safety.
  • Operates ultrasound equipment and accessories to produce high-quality diagnostic results while following safety guidelines.
  • Collaborates with physicians and staff, relaying significant changes and ensuring clinicians receive necessary information.
  • Maintains accurate clinical documentation and records within deadlines.
  • Supports departmental operations, including scheduling, answering phones, filing, and inventorying supplies.

Job description

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Echo Technologist (Cardiac Sonographer), you will utilize your expertise to produce two-dimensional cardiac ultrasonic recordings to evaluate the anatomy and hemodynamics (blood flow) of the heart, its valves and related blood vessels as prescribed by a physician for purposes of disease diagnosis and study of malfunctioning organs.

Every day, you will perform ultrasound procedures, stress echo's; bubble studies and contrast echo's, perform technological functions to ensure optimal diagnostic quality of patient test results utilizing efficient and safe processes that are in keeping with department protocols and applicable regulatory requirements.

To be successful in this role, you will deeply understand the critical importance of the safe, efficient and proper operation of ultrasound equipment. You will be accountable for keeping abreast of Virginia Mason Franciscan Health(VMFH) standards, protocols and procedures relating to the department, keeping skills current, demonstrating evidence of continuing education to include department meetings, individualized learning opportunities from physicians and related classes.

  • Prepares patients and performs ultrasound examinations according to physician orders and department protocols, obtaining accurate cross-sectional anatomy and diagnostic images of the requested area.
  • Provides patient-centered care across all age groups by explaining procedures, answering questions, reviewing medical history, ensuring patient comfort and safety, and responding appropriately to changes in the patient’s condition or emergency situations.
  • Operates ultrasound equipment and accessories effectively, utilizing appropriate techniques and procedures to produce high-quality diagnostic results while following manufacturer guidelines for equipment cleaning, calibration, maintenance, and safety.
  • Collaborates with physicians and clinical staff by serving as a liaison between patients and providers, communicating significant changes in patient condition, and ensuring interpreting physicians receive the clinical and diagnostic information necessary for effective evaluation.
  • Maintains accurate clinical documentation and records by documenting pertinent patient information, reviewing and compiling clinical data, and completing required records within established departmental deadlines.
  • Supports departmental operations and quality standards by performing general office duties such as scheduling, answering phones, filing, maintaining records, and ordering/inventorying supplies, while demonstrating cultural sensitivity, effective communication, and competency in caring for the populations served.
Job Requirements
Required
  • Graduation from an accredited diagnostic ultrasound/echo sonography program that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities.
  • One year of post-graduate experience in cardiac ultrasound and/or demonstrated high degree of proficiency, knowledge, and acuity in the field of diagnostics or ultrasound is preferred.
  • Current registration by ARDMS, or current certification by Cardiovascular Credentialing International as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS).
  • Current healthcare provider BLS Certification.
