Job summary

• Associate’s Degree preferred.
• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited echocardiography program with 800 clinical hours preferred.
• 1 year Echo sonographer experience preferred.
• DMEDSON/ RDCS/ CCI required or credentialed.

Responsibilities

• Decontamination: cleans equipment, transducer cleaning, TEE cleaning, and electrical leakage testing per infection control policies.
• Emergency: responds to callback within designated timeframe.
• Equipment management: maintains equipment, troubleshoots, and notifies staff when issues arise; performs minor calibration per protocol.
• Performance improvement: participates in department continuous improvement and peer evaluation.
• Patient care: performs TTE and TEE, stress echocardiograms, obtaining required views and additional views for diagnostic studies.
• Patient records: prepares images and data in preliminary report in designated reporting system.
• Patient safety: inspects TEE probe for use, confirms leakage test, positions patient for testing.
• Data entry: records measurements in 2-D and M-mode and advanced measurements.
• Stress echocardiograms: obtains required views quickly, including post-exercise views within sixty seconds.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

• Decontamination Cleans the equipment, performs transducer cleaning, TEE cleaning, and electrical leakage testing in accordance with all infection control policies.
• Emergency Responds to emergency callbacks within the designated timeframe in accordance with departmental policy.
• Equipment Management Maintains equipment, troubleshoots equipment, and alerts clinical engineering and management staff when equipment issues arise. Performs minor calibration per protocol or policy.
• Performance improvement Participates in the department Continuous Performance Improvement program and related activities including evaluation of their own work and the work of peers in a professional manner.
• Patient Care Performs transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) and transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE), stress echos (SE) in accordance with department policy and protocols, obtaining all required views as well as additional views to provide a highly diagnostic study.
• Patient Records Prepares images and data in a preliminary report in designated reporting system i.e. cardiology PACS or EMR system prior to physician reading the study.
• Patient Safety Ensures patient safety by inspecting TEE probe for use, confirming leakage test completed and proper positioning of patients for all testing.
• Data Entry Records all required measurements in 2-d and M-mode as well as advanced measurements per policy and protocol.
• Stress Echocardiograms Obtains all required views quickly and efficiently when conducting stress echocardiograms including post-exercise views routinely within sixty seconds of the end of the exercise.

Qualifications

• Preferred Associate’s Degree
• Required High School Diploma/GED Required
• Graduate of an CAAHEP accredited echocardiography program with 800 clinical hours Preferred
• 1 year Experience working as an echo sonographer Preferred
• Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMEDSON) Required or Registry for Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographers (RDCS) Required or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) Required
