Job description

Overview
At Houston Methodist, the Echo Sonographer II position is an experienced and fully competent sonographer who performs a variety of routine to complex echocardiograms including but not limited to Transthoracic Echocardiogram (TTE) with Color, Spectral Doppler, and 2-D imaging; Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE); Plain Stress Echocardiogram or Dobutamine Stress Echocardiogram; TTE with bubbles; TTE with Contrast; and advanced TTE such as TTE with 3D imaging, for both inpatient and outpatient studies. This position provides additional support for pharmacologic and exercise stress procedures, Holter testing, EKG, and/or cardiac event monitoring, as well as advanced procedures when needed (e.g., TAVR). The Echo Sonographer II locates, evaluates, and records pertinent anatomical, pathological, and functional data using ultrasound equipment. This position transmits exams to compatible DICOM storage applications, processes preliminary technical data in designated systems, and communicates significant findings to the attending physician. The role actively participates in quality and compliance initiatives. Availability to be on call is required.

  • Identify cardiac structures and abnormalities accurately, ensuring high-quality images and data.
  • Take corrective action or communicate findings promptly to optimize outcomes.

Qualifications
EDUCATION
  • Graduate from an approved education program for the required credentials.
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum three years as a Cardiac/Echo Sonographer; or two years at Houston Methodist with one as an Echo Sonographer.
License/Certification
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • BLS (AHA)
  • ARDMS RDCS or equivalent certifications (RCS, RCCS, RDCS-PE)
KSA/Supplemental Data
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Competency in echocardiography and ultrasound safety standards.
  • Proficiency with hospital and cardiology information systems, and office software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation.
  • Effective communication skills, including in English.

  • Scrubs required

ON-CALL

  • Required to be on call during emergencies.

TRAVEL

  • May require local travel within Houston area; travel outside Houston is not typically required.
