Responsibilities

  • Chart, file, and charge echocardiography procedures; manage scheduling as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of echocardiography supplies.

The Sonographer - Echo Cardiac Ultrasound at North Mississippi Health Services plays a crucial role in echocardiography. JOB SUMMARY

The Sonographer - Echo Cardiac Ultrasound at North Mississippi Health Services plays a crucial role in echocardiography. This role is responsible for conducting educational and in-service training, performing various echocardiography procedures, ensuring proper charting and filing, maintaining inventory, and participating in Performance Improvement activities.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Educational

  • The incumbent will participate in the training of new personnel.
  • The incumbent will conduct/participate in in-service training classes.

Clinical

  • The incumbent performs all aspects of echocardiography (M-mode; 2 Dimensional; Spectral and Color Flow Doppler, Stress Echocardiography; assists with Trans esophageal Echocardiography;) Responsible for proper use of Telemedicine equipment used in pediatric echocardiography.

Clerical

  • Responsible for proper charting, filing, and charging of all Echocardiography procedures performed.
  • Responsible for Computerized Patient Scheduling on an as needed basis.

Inventory

  • Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of supplies needed for procedures performed.

Performance Inventory

  • Participates in hospital and departmental on-going Performance Improvement activities and complies with actions taken as a result of those activities to assure high quality patient care.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Associate's Degree: The incumbent must be a registered cardiac sonographer and preferably a graduate of an accredited ultrasound program or NMMC Echo Internship, which includes training in cardiac ultrasound. Required
  • Other (Experience): Basic and Advanced Cardiology classes. Preferred
  • Other (Experience): Continuing education is required on an annual basis regarding Cardiology procedures performed. Required
Licenses and Certifications
  • ARDMS - Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonography RDCS Required
  • CCI - Cardiovascular Credentialing International RCS Required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Required
Work Experience
  • 1-3 years Work experience not required due to on job training program Preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • This position requires detailed knowledge of cardiac anatomy, cardiac disease processes and the effect of these disease processes on the cardiac structures and blood flow. Required N/A
  • The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to perform detailed measurements and calculations in order to define disease states. Required N/A
  • This position requires knowledge and use of computerized ultrasound and echocardiography equipment. Required N/A
  • This position requires knowledge and use of telemedicine equipment for the transmission of echocardiography images by telemedicine. Required N/A
