Job summary

The NorthEast Washington Educational Service District 101 invites applications for an ECEAP assistant teacher in Republic, Washington. You will assist the lead teacher in delivering high‑quality preschool services and involve families in planning and activities.

The position runs eight hours daily, Monday through Friday, following the school calendar, and is housed in Republic School District. Required trainings and safe, supportive classroom practices are emphasized.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; 12 college quarter credits in Early Childhood preferred.
  • Must meet continuing education requirements and complete NEWESD 101 mandated training.
  • Must hold current pediatric CPR/first aid and Washington Food Worker Card; valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the lead teacher and support families with program activities.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and parent meetings to relay information.
  • Maintain classroom materials, records, and safety checks.
  • Monitor students in various settings to ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Assist with meal setup and service to meet nutritional needs.

Job description

Purpose Statement

The job of ECEAP assistant teacher is done for the purpose of assisting the lead teacher in providing quality, comprehensive child development services to preschool children and their families and encouraging parental involvement in educational planning, goal setting, and center activities.

This position reports to the director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Birth-Grade 12 and the lead ECEAP teacher.

This position is eight hours per day, Monday - Friday following the typical school calendar. This position is housed in Republic School District.

Functions
  • Acts as a support and resource person for families for the purpose of assisting the teacher in case managing specific needs with families, advocating for parents, and encouraging parent involvement in the program.
  • Attends meetings and workshops (e.g. in-service, staffing, training, parent meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and gathering information required to perform functions and/or maintaining professional knowledge.
  • Maintains classroom equipment, supplies, student records, (e.g. instructional materials, meal counts, attendance, fire safety checklist, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items, providing reliable information, and ensuring a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Monitors students in a variety of educational settings (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, nap times, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Provides set-up and service of meals and snacks for the purpose of meeting nutritional needs of students.
  • Performs related duties as assigned. Related duties may not specifically be listed but are within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's classification of work.
Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.

Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:
  • applying pertinent policies, regulations, and laws,
  • planning and managing activities, preparing and maintaining accurate records, and
  • operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and ratios, read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and present information to others, and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions.

Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes:
  • appropriate codes, policies, regulations, and laws,
  • age appropriate activities,
  • lesson plan requirements,
  • community resources, and
  • stages of child development.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities, collate data, and use basic, job‑related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances, work with data utilizing defined and similar processes, and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and groups and work with similar types of data. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation.

Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:

General Requirements
Responsibility

Responsibilities include working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods, directing other persons within a small work unit, and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the agency's services.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 15% sitting, 35% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under some hazardous conditions.

High School diploma or equivalent

The equivalent of 12 college quarter credits in Early Childhood or a current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential awarded by the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition preferred

Continuing Education/Training
  • Must complete mandatory training provided by NEWESD 101.
  • Complete a minimum of 15 hours of in-service professional development per calendar year, such as STARS or other job‑related workshops, classes, or job-embedded professional learning.
Certificates & Licenses
  • Maintain a current pediatric CPR/first aid certificate (at employee’s expense)
  • Maintain a current Washington State Department of Health Food Worker Card (at employee’s expense)
  • Valid driver's license and required auto insurance
  • Reliable personal transportation
Clearances
  • Provide proof of Mantoux Tuberculosis (TB) testing, treatment or immunity pursuant to WAC 110-300-0105(3).
  • Provide proof of MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunization or proof of immunity in accordance RCW 43.216.690.
  • Washington State Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) portable background check clearance (no cost).
  • WSP/FBI criminal history background clearance (if needed at employee's expense).
