Patient Care Assistants work with our patients from the initial exam and diagnosis, through treatments, advanced procedures, and discharge. Who this position is right for

• Experienced veterinary assistants looking to further their knowledge base and skillset
• Pre‑Veterinary and Veterinary Technician students who want to work and learn alongside veterinarians and technicians that are in the top of their fields while gaining hands‑on patient experience

Responsibilities

• Ability to follow treatment plan in Instinct
• Ability to obtain primary survey and intake of patient history in the Emergency Room
• Recognize changes in patients’ status & react appropriately
• Specialized handling and restraint of painful, debilitated & compensated patients
• Perform treatments as pertains to a NYS non‑licensed technician
• Listen in on LVT rounds, fundamental understanding patient’s disease process
• Proficient record keeping, record findings on treatments sheets/enter Cornerstone/Instinct
• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (note taking, compressions, mechanical ventilator)
• Ensure cleanliness and comfort of ICU/ES patients
• Provide patient restraint as appropriate to critically ill patients
• Assist with the production of diagnostic images during radiology’s off hours
• Maintain excellent working relationships between the ICU/ES and other departments
• Maintain excellent communication with the veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and other staff members

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 2 years work experience, preferably in a similar position
• Animal handling experience; able to restrain all species
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds
• Team‑player; able to work successfully as part of a team
• Remain composed in stressful and emergency situations
• Flexible about working additional hours when necessary
• Excellent organizational, multi‑tasking, and communication skills
• Follow detailed protocols
• Neatly and correctly fill out paperwork

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds
• Able to stand, walk, lift, and bend for extended periods.
• Comfortable working in a surgical/sterile environment for prolonged shifts.

Pay Range

$24.30 – $30.30 USD
