Job Description
  • Comply with district, state, and federal policies and procedures, meeting all required timelines.
  • Develop and implement an instructional plan that aligns with school and system‑wide curricular goals and the students’ Individual Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Provide support to general education classroom teachers when appropriate.
  • Develop, implement, and update Individual Education Programs for students with disabilities, using diagnostic information from assessments.
  • Plan and implement non‑academic instruction in areas such as social skills, career development, post‑secondary transition planning, and community‑based instruction.
  • Deliver direct special education instruction to identified students in resource or co‑teaching settings.
  • Document and share student progress on goals, accommodations, service time, and discipline/suspensions; collect and analyze data to monitor progress.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods to meet student needs, adapting or developing materials as necessary.
  • Monitor student behavior, maintain classroom discipline, deescalate inappropriate behaviors, and teach appropriate behavioral strategies.
  • Apply CPI training and behavioral function knowledge to prevent and safely intervene in behaviors, including restraint when part of a written plan.
  • Communicate with parents about their children’s educational progress through periodic written progress reports.
  • Act as a case coordinator for assigned students, consulting with community caregivers, school support professionals, and parents to meet student needs.
  • Maintain student records in accordance with North Carolina’s Procedures Governing Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities, and comply with state and federal statutes.
  • Participate in building‑level and special education meetings as directed by administrators.
  • Treat all students fairly and equitably; interact effectively with students, coworkers, parents, and the community.
  • Follow a professional development plan and demonstrate evidence of growth.
  • Maintain basic files and records.
  • Understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by work assignments.
  • Perform other related work as required.
  • Coordinate and direct the activities of the Instructional Assistant, if applicable.
Qualifications
  • Possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Must qualify or be eligible to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator's License.
  • Strong background in North Carolina Standard Course of Study/Common Core and Essential Standards.
  • Proper NC certification preferred.
