Responsibilities

  • Comply with timelines, laws, and regulations as it relates to district, state, and federal policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement an instructional plan aligned with school and system-wide goals and students’ IEPs.
  • Provide support to general education classroom teachers, as appropriate.
  • Develop IEPs for students with disabilities; implement the IEP and update it based on diagnostic information.
  • Plan and implement non-academic instruction in areas such as social skills and post-secondary planning.
  • Provide direct special education instruction in a resource setting or co-teaching setting.
  • Document and share student progress on goals, accommodations, service time, and discipline; collect and analyze data.
  • Employ a variety of teaching methods to meet student needs and adapt materials as needed.
  • Monitor student behavior and maintain classroom discipline; teach appropriate behavioral strategies.
  • Use CPI training and behavior understanding to prevent and safely intervene.
  • Communicate with parents regarding educational progress via progress reports.
  • Act as case coordinator for assigned students; consult with care-givers and professionals to meet needs.
  • Maintain student records per NC procedures and state/federal statutes.
  • Participate in school and special education meetings as directed by administrators.
  • Treat all students fairly and professionally; maintain effective working relationships.
  • Follow a plan for professional development and demonstrate growth.
  • Maintain basic files and records; follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Coordinate and direct the activities of the Instructional Assistant if applicable

Education

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Must qualify or be eligible to hold North Carolina Professional Educator's License

Job Description:
Job Goal:

  • Comply with timelines, laws, and regulations as it relates to district, state, and federal policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implementan instructional plan which is compatible with the school and system-wide curricular goals and the students’ Individual Education Program.
  • Provide support to general education classroom teachers, as appropriate
  • Develop Individual Education Programs (IEP) for students with disabilities; implement the IEP; and usediagnostic information obtained from tests and other assessment procedures to update IEP’s as needed.
  • Plan and implement non-academic instruction in areas such as social skills, career development, post-secondary transition planning, and community based instruction.
  • Provide direct special education instruction to identified students in a resource setting or in a co-teaching setting.
  • Document and share student progress on goals and objectives, accommodations, service time, and discipline/suspensions. Collect and analyze student data and monitor student progress.
  • Employ a variety of teaching methods to meet student needs. Implementation of these methods may require the adaptation or development of materials.
  • Monitor student behavior; maintain discipline in the classroom; deescalates inappropriate behaviors; teach students appropriate behavioral strategies.
  • Use CPI training and an understanding of the function of behavior to prevent behavior and intervene safely and effectively, including restraint when part of awritten plan.
  • Communicate with parents regarding their children’s educational progress via periodic written progress reports.
  • Act as a case coordinator for assigned students; consults with community care-givers, school support professionals, and parents to better understand and meet student needs.
  • Maintain student records in accordance with North Carolina’s Procedures Governing Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities; and complies with state and federal education statutes.
  • Participate in building level meetings and in special education meetings as directed by administrators
  • Treat all students in a fair and equitable manner, interacteffectively with students, co-workers, parents, and community.
  • Follow a plan for professional development and demonstrateevidence of growth.
  • Ability to maintain basic files and records.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
  • Performs other related work as required.
  • Coordinate and direct the activities of the Instructional Assistant, if applicable

Qualifications:
