Job summary

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school
• Associate's Degree, or Completion of 48 semester hours of college credits, or Successful completion of a series of WorkKeys assessments plus earn 96 contact hours of appropriate staff development
• Must be at least eighteen (18) years old with six (6) months driving experience
• Must possess or be willing to obtain a current North Carolina commercial driver’s license with endorsements and a current Bus Drivers Pocket Card
• Must pass a DOT drug and alcohol testing
• Must never have been convicted of a DWI Offense

Responsibilities

• Performs, under general supervision, a wide range of tasks to support and assist the teacher in meeting the needs of all students
• Provides one-on-one assistance with academics and behavioral problems and may lead small group activities
• Obtains and maintains basic first aid and CPR certification
• Stays abreast of methods of adapting instruction and related policies
• Assists teacher with executing instruction and evaluating its effectiveness
• Monitors the safety and well-being of students and encourages independence
• Maintains records concerning student progress
• Assists with daily living skills and activities as needed (feeding, toileting, etc.)
• Assists with therapeutic rehabilitation and medication administration as directed
• Performs housekeeping duties and maintains equipment
• Participates in staff development and other duties as assigned
