The EC Infant Toddler Classroom Assistant assists the infant/toddler teaching staff in providing educational and social opportunities for enrolled children in a loving, safe and nurturing environment.Responsibilities:Education Services (80%) School Readiness Outcomes (10%) Family/Community Engagement (5%) Data Inputting (5%)Work Habits and PracticesReport to work on a regular basis, as scheduled. Must be willing to work flexible hours and days, including evenings and weekends.To act as a team member with all center staff and management staff to meet the educational and developmental needs of enrolled children. Consults with appropriate staff regarding children’s special needs (dietary, equipment, etc).Demonstrate commitment to the PGST ECEP mission, values, and policies in performance of daily duties.Continue to increase professional knowledge, skills, and competencies in job related areas; incorporate and demonstrate new knowledge and skills on the job.Contribute to the development of communication, mutual respect and support, competence and creativity among all members of the EC Program thru active participation in the Peer-to-Peer Coaching process.Maintains strict confidentiality of program staff and family/child information.Accept responsibility for seeking assistance and guidance when needed; integrate constructive direction from supervisor to improve job performance.Accept responsibility for quality of job performance and make changes as needed.To participate in relevant training and on-going career development goals and opportunities.Teacher ServicesMaintain a safe, sanitary and clean classroom areas that includes indoor and outdoor environments and equipment.Provide a curriculum and classroom environment that builds and strengthens the security, trust, positive self-concepts and individual strengths of each child.Provide warm, caring, nurturing, positive, supportive responses to all children.Implement developmentally appropriate best practices, principles, and performance standards in a comprehensive head start classroom environment.Integrate S’Klallam cultural practices in all areas of the environment.Promote positive transitions for all children from activities and services.Assist in conducting observations and recording of children’s behavior.Participate in established health and safety procedures daily.Assist in the development and implementation of routines and curriculum that promote good health habits and integrate the health and nutrition components in the classroom.Maintain an open, friendly and cooperative relationship with each child’s family and extended family; encouraging their involvement in the program; promoting parent-child bonding and nurturing parent-child relationships; work with the parents to strengthen the family’s knowledge of early childhood development.To support the partnership with families that promotes them as the primary teacher of their child in the areas of literacy, numeric, social and emotional growth and physical growth.To assist the bus driver as a bus monitor in transporting childrenTo participate in family /community activities and educational activities.CommunicationsAssist in maintaining on-going records for each child, record pertinent information in child’s file, including but limited to child observations, verbal and written communications with families and staff in regard to child.Conduct all communication with staff, supervisor, program participants, and community in an effective, respectful, timely, and supportive manner.Maintains strict confidentiality of program staff and family/child information.To attend relevant staff meetings and staffing of children and families. To participate in annual reviews of work plan and program policies and procedures.Reporting is mandatory for tribal employees andcontractors with the tribe who perform services to the community in theareas of education, health and human services, law enforcement andmembers of the clergy.Education and Certifications:High School Diploma or equivalent- Required.Valid Washington State Driver's License with Commercial Driver’s License Endorsement, Defensive Driving Certificate (when it is offered by the Tribe),Food Handler’s Permit-RequiredFirst Aid CPR Certification- Required.Cultural Knowledge: Strong knowledge of history, traditions, language and lands of the S’Klallam Tribe.Experience:With a high school diploma, prefer one-year consistent paid experience working with groups of children 0-72 months in a child care center AND/OR experience working with children 0 -72 months in the local community.Other Requirements:Position is eligible for situational remote work as needed. The schedule must be discussed with and approved by supervisor and director and may be subject to change depending on role and department need.Deep respect for tribal members, values, sovereignty and historyOutstanding customer service skillsComputer Skills: Experienced or able to learn: PC network/software/apps for placing food orders, ChildPlus, Microsoft Word, ExcelInterpersonal Relationship: Ability to interact with others in a professional and compassionate manner, maintain confidentiality and work well as a member of a team.Physical Requirements:Regularly required to finger, handle, reach with hands and armsFrequently required to walk, sit, standRegularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 poundsNormal audio and visual acuityFrequently required to be in an outdoor environment rain or shine, to support classrooms in their outdoor land-based curriculumTravel Requirements:Local, Statewide and out of state travel may be required.
