Job Summary:This position facilitates learning for infants or school-aged children before and after care, and full day when the local elementary school is out of session. As well as assisting teaching staff in delivering daily care for children enrolled in Head Start, ECEAP, or Early Head Start classrooms. The role involves fostering positive relationships with children and families while implementing an approved developmentally appropriate curriculum that promotes routines and supports the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of children in the program.Duties:Work collaboratively with other team members always maintaining a professional environment.Share classroom responsibilities (classroom clean-up/classroom maintenance) with all teaching staff.Create and implement lesson plans with activities for indoor and outdoor learning environments with classroom teaching teams for the infant or school-aged classroom. Submit monthly lesson plans to Childcare Coordinator.Help infant or school-aged teaching team prepare and maintain monthly paperwork, reports and turn in according to established timelines.Computer usage including Microsoft Office programs, web-based data management systems, and outlook.Assist Head Start, ECEAP, or Early Head Start classroom teachers in implementing the daily program for toddlers and preschoolers under the direct supervision of classroom teaching staff.Prepare the learning environment for children by setting up activity centers with materials and supplies.Provide coverage for Head Start, ECEAP, or Early Head Start teachers during breaks and planning times as requested by the Childcare Coordinator or Program Management.Participate in required meetings and training including Inservice day, monthly team meetings and others designated by the Childcare Coordinator or Program Management.Notify teaming team and Childcare Coordinator of absences from work with as much advance notice as possible.Immediately Report any suspected incidences of child abuse/neglect to the ELC Director to work together to complete in detail the appropriate written documentation, call 911, and make a report to TCW or CPS as mandated and in accordance with Suquamish Tribe’s policy.Other duties as assigned.Essential Physical/Mental Functions:The physical requirements of this position require being able to physically match the activity level ranging from infants to school-aged children.Position requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, twisting and bending.Must be able to get down on the child’s eye level and floor.Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, repeatedly.Simple grasping and hand manipulation required as well as reaching above and below shoulder level.Must be able to withstand exposure to noise in any of the classroom environments (infant, toddler, pre-school, and school-aged).Must be mentally alert and able to react quickly and appropriately.Must be able to build secure, nurturing relationships with children and families.Must display a positive affect while working with children and in the workplace.Requires accuracy, good communication, judgment, and the ability to remain calm and provide appropriate advice and information.Must be able to exhibit regular attendance.Cultural Sensitivity:Understanding of and respect for tribal culture and traditions, with the ability to work effectively in a tribal and or culturally diverse work environment.Requirements:Federal/State/Tribal background checks requiredValid Washington State Driver’s Licenseuquamish Tribe required vaccinationsPre-Employment Drug TestingTribal and Indian preferenceDisclaimer:This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position.The employee will be required to follow any other job-related duties requested by their supervisor and/or ELC Director.Education and/or Experience:High School Diploma or GED required.Preferably, a Child Development Associate (CDA) OR ECE Initial teaching certificate OR related behavioral field with at least six months experience OR completion of 30 hours Childcare Basics upon hire and agree to obtain an ECE Initial certificate within two (2) years of hire.Flexibility in work hours and adaptability to changing situations are essential.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrates empathy and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by low-income families.Excellent organizational and planning skills.Must have interest and understanding of Suquamish Tribal culture.Health Requirements:Tuberculosis (TB) skin test prior to start.CPR/First Aid Certification.Initial physical exam within three months of employment; every two years thereafter.Food Handlers Permit.HIV/AIDS Training, Bloodborne Pathogens and all other licensure related training annually.Good personal hygiene and grooming.
