Responsibilities

Earthwork Estimator

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Earthwork Estimator to join a busy construction team delivering a range of civil engineering, groundworks and infrastructure projects. This role will suit a commercially minded professional with strong technical knowledge, excellent attention to detail and the ability to prepare accurate tenders within demanding timescales.

Key responsibilities

• Reviewing project drawings, specifications, schedules and tender documentation.
• Preparing detailed estimates for earthworks, excavation, grading, drainage, haulage and associated civil engineering activities.
• Calculating labour, plant, materials, subcontractor and disposal costs.
• Obtaining and assessing supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Carrying out take-offs, volume calculations and site measurement reviews.
• Identifying project risks, exclusions, assumptions and opportunities for cost savings.
• Producing clear, competitive and commercially sound tender submissions.
• Liaising with clients, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors and internal project teams.
• Supporting handover meetings and providing estimating information to the delivery team.
• Maintaining accurate records of enquiries, quotations and tender outcomes.

About you

You will have previous experience in an estimating role within earthworks, groundworks, highways, utilities or a related civil engineering environment. A sound understanding of construction methods, ground conditions, production rates and relevant health and safety requirements is essential.

The successful candidate will be confident interpreting technical drawings and specifications, using estimating software and spreadsheets, and working with cost data. Strong numerical and analytical skills are required, alongside the ability to manage several tenders simultaneously and meet strict deadlines. Experience with electronic measurement or computer-aided design software would be advantageous.
