The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.
Postdoctoral fellows are invited to propose research to investigate the role of land surface hydrology and its coupling with different aspects of the climate system. This includes studying wetlands, dynamics of lakes and rivers, flooding under climate‑change scenarios, and model evaluation with remote‑sensing observations from missions such as SWOT, SMAP, GRACE, or others.
Successful applicants should have experience with mathematical modeling, computer programming, and the analysis of field and remote‑sensing datasets. A background in Earth, Physical, or Computing Sciences, advanced statistics, compiled programming languages (e.g., C, FORTRAN95), and scripting in Python or R is highly desirable.
Degree: Doctoral Degree.
Eligibility is currently open to U.S. Citizens, U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents (LPR), Foreign Nationals eligible for an Exchange Visitor J‑1 visa status, and applicants for LPR, asylees, or refugees in the U.S. at the time of application with a valid EAD card and I‑485 or I‑589 forms in pending status.
